NHS - France just announced that in future, the 27 million patients who miss a doctor's appointment each year will have to pay Euros 5.

6% of NHS appointments are missed at £40 a pop. Sunak promised to do something, but is frit. Let's hope Streeting is more courageous.

I wouldn’t have a major issue with this. Think you get a text 72 hours prior (at least I do) so if they had a system where you could click to cancel free with 48 hours notice there’s no reason it couldn’t work. But then that’s easy for me to say as someone who can use an iPhone and won’t be ****ed if fined £20 or whatever it would be.

Yes, the text thing is easy and essential. And no doubt there would be exemptions for valid reasons for non-show without notice, including genuine mental illness (as opposed all the self-diagnosed ADHD bollocks). Streeting is moving towards private care supplementing the NHS, good for those on long waiting lists, but it's a stake up the arse of middle class, liberal elites whose principles are breached
