I’m excited for more trade with Ecuador.

One in 20 UK adults can’t afford enough food in 2023. That’s going to be a lot of empañadas.

That snippet was from the report that YOU referenced. It just seems both sides of the Brexit argument seem to take the parts of things they want to hear and ignore all the rest. There seems to be no middle ground with any of you.

I mean, it seems odd you pick out a small country like Ecuador….while ignoring the massive powerhouse that is China. It’s almost as if you’ve got an agenda

I believe any additional nations require unanimous agreement from existing members so even if China fancied it that’s no guarantee they’re in and then how much additional trade do we get with them as a result? I’m going to suggest not loads. Isn’t a friendlier relationship with China meant to be a bad thing? I can’t keep up.

See my posts with Stan above…..all makes more sense now re IHT.

But on your last point, I personally don’t want to earn more right now because it would mean my Mrs would have to pay back the child benefit (1% for every £100 quid over £50k) adding to that the 40% tax bracket makes it pointless me doing overtime.
I’m not particularly rich…..just done my time

You only get taxed 40% above anything above the bracket so you will still be earning more money.

As for the child benefit thing, if its really not worth your while you can salary sacrifice it into your pension and earn the full amount

Aren't we decoupling our industries with china and dont want to be reliant on them?

China won't be joining CPTPP. The reason Japan was so keen for the UK to join was to help them block China.

My wife doesn’t work at the moment so she has the child benefit for the kids. Of course I’ll be earning more money but for the hours, stress and conflict with home life...it doesn’t make it worthwhile

Do you all see China as the new “Enemy” then ?

That's fully fine. Work life balance is a good thing.

If they decided to up your salary higher than removes the child benefit you wouldn't say no though right? :emoticon-0105-wink:

No one cares
Make a certain amount and you will pay for it
Work 10 hours or 70 hours per week
Doesn't make a difference

China will be the only winner out of the Ukraine war (individual arms manufacturers aside), and will be in a perfect position to exploit any weaknesses. Do you think NATO or SEATO would have the stomach for another fight if China decides to finally invade Taiwan?

Any conflict with the Chinese will probably start with a cyber war that will cripple us.

Our defence organisations are very wary of what is happening in that region
