Seven of the councillors quit the SNP party after they were subjected to disciplinary matters.

They had been accused of bringing shame on the party and were disciplined by the SNP group after backing an amendment to a motion put to a full meeting of North Lanarkshire Council by the group’s leader Tracy Carragher.

The group recently wrote a joint letter to the SNP National Secretary Lorna Finn regarding the scandal over former council leader Jordan Linden, and group leader Tracy Carragher’s alleged failure to investigate complaints made by one member.

The eight founder members of Progressive Change include councillors Beth Baudo; Gerry Brennan; David Crichton; Paul DiMascio; Jim Hume; Greg Lennon; Barry McCluskey and Cameron McManus.

An eighth member, Central Wishaw elected member Jim Hume, then joined the group having resigned from the SNP.

"We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new group, which presents an exciting challenge for both myself and my colleagues," Progressive Change NL elected leader, Councillor Greg Lennon told the Daily Record.

“Over time, North Lanarkshire has witnessed a significant lack of representation for our communities as well as within the council workforce.

“It is unfortunate that tribal politics has hindered progress on issues that truly matter - the wellbeing and prosperity of our people.

Bit grim in 2023 that shops are putting basic food on empty displays and you have to ask staff to get you a real one because people can’t afford it. All a bit Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile Oxford students try to prevent someone who they think they disagree with from talking (how to they know, they haven’t heard what she has to say?) on the grounds that it’s ‘exhausting’ entering into a debate about her opinions.I know this is just a phase, a cultural spasm, that we are going through, but man it’s depressing.

HMRC has levied £300m worth of fines on organisations breaching the IR35 rules - trying to stop the employment of people who are in effect long term employees on contractor terms - which has pros and cons for the employee. Doubtless this has been abused in the past - people doing a job for years that doesn’t attract holiday or sick pay or pension fund membership and reduces the government tax take, but the whole thing is a mess and has contributed to many skilled people simply giving up work. Unfortunately the vast majority of the £300m fines have been levied on public sector organisations, so the taxpayer is stumping up for their failure to be able to recruit proper, fully employed staff, hence reliance on contractors. Farce. I think Truss was actually going to try and address this, but seems it’s off Rishi’s radar.

As a coffee addict I was gifted a very nice machine years ago and it’s served me well. **** beans are grim but for a fiver you can get really nice stuff which does maybe 30 espressos. I think there are coffee pod machines you can get free now but the pods are expensive and environmentally horrific.

Corned beef tins and mayonnaise jars locked up at a West Auckland Countdown supermarket.
Cigarettes and certain dangerous goods are commonly out of reach in stores, but one West Auckland supermarket has more common products locked up.

Countdown in Massey has had to lock away corned beef and mayonnaise to stop them being stolen.

While the smaller cans and jars are still on the shelves, the large versions – several corned beef brands and Best Foods mayonnaise – are kept locked in a glass cabinet apart from the rest of the groceries at the supermarket.

Countdown spokesman James Walker said the selected food items were under lock and key because they had been frequently stolen.

In most supermarkets that stock council rubbish bags, the bags are stored away from the general store shelves, usually under the cashier's bench.


Stores that stock expensive wine will also often lock away the best bottles, which will be sold on request.

Truss and Kwartang proposed to reverse IR35 to great joy in the contracting world, only for that decision to be reversed once Hunt got hold of the red box - ****.

There are ways around it, I work for multiple clients which keeps HMRC off my back where IR35 is concerned

Sooner or later a motorist is going to lose their temper and drive through/over a cluster of these loons in a manner that may well prove fatal. They'll of course face prison, and families (on both sides) will thus be torn apart. Why are the police allowing it to build to this?
