To answer you last question, the difference is one is done on behalf of a state that will shoot its own soldiers and send assassins around the world to murder people, and the other is rogue soldiers in the British Army that will face criminal prosecution if the evidence is sufficient to prove their crime.

That's fair enough if you want to believe we are as good as gold. I wouldn't be surprised if we have our own james bonds in the force but it's all fantasy as it either didn't happen or isn't reported on.

I notice though that you haven't mentioned any defence of the americans. So if the good guys of america can torture people why is it hard to believe that the ukranians aren't capable of it or that there are even more rogue soldiers considering the british army has rogue soldiers and we recruit on the highest standards.

The American military are more brutal than Europe, true. In civil law, they have the death penalty in some states. I recall the military indulging in water boarding after 911.

But Ukraine isn't trying to join America, they want to join the EU, which has very liberal and soft penal systems.

Good afternoon Tom.

So,you don’t think that the British state was actively involved in dirty tactics during the NI conflict ? Isn’t it well known that the state colluded with Loyalist paramilitaries and quite happily passed on information on suspected IRA members so that they could be shot ?

Care to give examples of extra-judicial torture and murder in the UK where a blind eye was shown by the state and the persecutors were not prosecuted.

I give you

Stakeknife and the murder of Joseph Fenton is pretty much bang on what you’d want as an example….though I’m expecting you to come out with some piss poor excuse why this isn’t the case.

Let's add Pat Finucane as another high profile murder with collusion from the authorities...

For a start, you're muddling up what took place in the field when the IRA were militarily active, and revenge attacks on Republican paramilitaries once apprehended. That is where this conversation started. You are saying collaborators taken prisoner in Ukraine would be tortured and murdered by the state. I am saying Zelensky cannot afford to let this happen, in view of his ambitions for Ukraine to join the West.

You’re reverting to type Goldie. Read the conversation again

Nice to see that the good guys are behaving well...

Ukraine war: Were Russian soldiers shot after surrendering?
You must log in or register to see images

A video has emerged from the front line in eastern Ukraine showing the surrender of a group of soldiers in an incident that appears to end in their deaths.

Russia has reacted to the footage, accusing Ukraine of executing Russian prisoners of war, which would be a war crime. Ukraine has not yet responded to the allegations.

The BBC has not been able to establish Russia's assertions from the video alone, but we've been studying the footage, trying to piece together what might have happened.

Warning: This piece contains graphic images which some may find upsetting.

The incident happened on or before Saturday 12 November in Makiyivka, a village on the front line in Luhansk region.

There are no good guys in war.
It reduces every one to base level.

But there are perpetrators who start wars. In some cases it takes two to Tango.
In this war...that is not the case.

I do not condone this but.

If your mates were killed, your mother and wife raped, your town destroyed...your country bombarded on a daily basis..

I wonder what you would do.

I know ( and as a girl) if somebody did anything to my family...I may not be responsible

Exactly what I've been saying since day 1 of this conflict, but there are many people who still refuse to believe that the Ukranians are capable of "bad things".

As a vigilante, or as a soldier? As a vigilante I can do whatever I want, I'm not beholden to the laws of the Geneva Convention, but the laws of the land. I am responsible for my own actions and if I felt an eye for an eye was appropriate, I can give in to those urges, and face any consequences thereafter. However, as a member of the Armed Forces, I'd have a whole different bag of rules to contend with - primarily your Rules of Engagement, as set out under the Geneva Convention, and shooting unarmed POWs is definately not in the rule book.

Then you wouldn't be allowed to join the EU (apparently)
