Did you see him being interviewed by the new Laura Keunssberg (can’t remember his name)? He was genuinely bewildered. He can’t even do a half decent impression of penitence. I don’t think he understands why people care about this kind of stuff. He has something missing from his psyche. To be fair he has never hidden, or been able to hide, this.

He's very much missing something from his psyche and I pity him for that. As a kid he moved 32 times in 14 years and was home schooled by his Mum, with his 3 siblings. Apparently they were very very close until she had a complete mental breakdown when he was 11, requiring shock therapy at the Maudsley (allegedly because of repeated affairs that Stanley had). That essentially severed his tie with the closest person in the world to him, and he was sent to boarding school. That's when he changed his name to Boris, and I bet also the point he ceased to be able to form a meaningful relationship with another human.

His childhood complete ****ed him up.

I'm sorry, I really can't muster any sympathy for the self-serving, entitled narcissist. Lots of people have hard childhoods without abandoning all sense of morality.

Like I mentioned previously he’s got away with it his whole career why would he think it wouldn’t work now.

Be interesting how the next version of the Torys will brand themselves

I don’t feel at all sorry for him I’m afraid. If he has a treatable issue he needs to get it treated. More likely a personality disorder and untreatable anyway. Are all his siblings equally ****ed up? Don’t think so. Goldie says lots of leaders have morality problems but perhaps that’s a prerequisite to thinking you are up to the job and ‘deserve’ it. Sometimes we get lucky and this insane ambition, which is really the thing you need, is allied to a bit of talent. The weird thing about Johnson is that he has no real talent, a load of ambition but a very poor work ethic as well. It’s a problem with our politics that such a devious waster can end up top dog.

Well, to be clear, I don't feel *that* sorry for him. I hate the guy. But put another way, I wouldn't trade my 'normal' upbringing for his in a 1000 years.

Fair enough. Probably not the place for it, but ‘ambition’ is an interesting topic. I’ve been accused, occasionally, of lacking it (in a work context) and I can understand why, not that it’s bothered me. I have seen a lot of people rise through organisations almost solely on the basis of self promotion, opportunity taking, and blame avoidance. Really bewilders me how it happens in the absence of talent.

Seems that Sunak was caught between a rock and a hard place, fundamentally unable to agree an economic strategy with populist Johnson, and at the same time meant to present a new one with him next week.

The complete train wreck that is our economy will claim more heads in this merry-go-round of ineptitude. Including at the Bank of England, hopefully.
