Actually Stainsey...that is no longer the point.. He committed a crime and has been caught and fined.
But he has lied and lied and lied to parliament...he has broken the ministerial code.
That is the problem...

They are slimy as ****, he will definitely try and use semantics to try and get around the obvious attempts to mislead Parliament, he knows what he was doing, he’s done it through his entire career.
Lawyers are suggesting that he used "lawyer speak" in parliament, which means he may get away with the 'lying to parliament' charge.
Semantics of course. The party culture at No10 was clearly hugely out of control and was exposed during the pandemic.
I also acknowledge that a lot of people who lost loved ones, whilst socially distancing are genuinely outraged and upset.
However, I maintain that much of the "outrage" is definitely political. I can't stand Johnson and this government has been poor overall, but the level of outrage on here compared with other things going on in the world is rather telling imo.

Further, because FPNs have only been around for a relatively short period of time, the likes of Gladstone and Disraeli could never have been slapped with one, so it is unfair to label Blo-Jo as the first serving PM to be guilty of a criminal offence.

I heard Rees-Mogg say the other day that no one should have been penalised for breaking lockdown rules, because the restrictions were 'inhuman'. I have some sympathy for this, but the fact is Johnson chose to make the restrictions law and then proceeded to break his own law on numerous occasions. He should go.
I completely agree with you. We may come from opposite sides of the political divide, but what I think we both have in common is the demand that our elected representatives observe their own rules, don't lie to protect their own skin and uphold the traditions of office. These things are important.
Its just as simple as morals and values, who seriously wants their leader to have little to zero. In fairness, this is the least thing Johnson should have been sacked/resigned for. The ironic thing about the last few years under this government is the claim that Corbyn would have taken us back to the seventies! Maybe he would have but not as quickly as Johnson has.

The argument that he's doing a good job as far as Ukraine is concerned doesn't wash for long with me either. If the man can lie about something as "fluffy" as attending parties during lockdown then I would seriously question his competence and ethics in dealing with something as serious as this conflict. I don't mind politicians making unpopular decisions, or having principles that are diametrically opposed to mine, but I do want them to be transparent about it.
Regarding 'back to the 70s': much of what's happening right now has been as 'telescoped' as a Mark Dennis headbutt, but a long series of leaders have failed to take the necessary action. I recall concerns raised about not building more nuclear power stations back in the 80s. Interest rates were only going to go in one direction having been three-tenths of **** all for so long. A number of commentators warned of future high inflation off the back of quantitative easing and again because of the actions taken during lockdown. Ukraine has been brewing for years. Brexit offered a unique opportunity to create the right environment to attract people from all across the globe to staff the NHS and other institutions - of course the pandemic has had an adverse impact on what could be done in the short-term, but the opportunity is still there. There's been plenty of opportunity to deal with the illegal immigration crisis. The government could easily deal with the XR and offshoot organisations - for me they're fast becoming terrorist outfits. Everything is **** when there are opportunities everywhere to make better.

Why is it the ISIS nutcase that murdered the MP Amess gets a proper life sentence yet one of the pieces of 5hit that kicked a young Sophie Lancaster to death (because she was a goth) is due to be released on license after a mere 15 years?
I don’t know all the details of the case and am sure the perpetrator and the liberals have good reason (hard childhood, parents didn’t buy him an x-box maybe) for such an early release, but on the face of it, this seems like an injustice and both murderers should be locked up for the rest of their miserable days.
