Exporters to the EU face 7,000-truck-long queues in Kent and two-day delays to trade after the Brexit transition period ends, the government has warned.

Imports will also be disrupted in January, according to a letter from cabinet minister Michael Gove to the freight industry, seen by BBC News.

It also raises the prospect of a winter spike in Covid-19 leading to absences of port and border staff.

The transition period is due to expire at the end of the year.

Mr Gove, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, responsible for no-deal planning, wrote to logistics groups with the government's "reasonable worst-case scenario" planning for when the UK leaves the EU's single market and customs union rules on 1 January.

So piss poor restrictions which will do next to nothing to reduce the rise of cases.... how long before Boris blames the public for not following the rules and goes into full lockdown?

Reasonable worst case scenario? ...what does that even mean? It's a worse case scenario or not, reasonable is not a word that is needed.

Gove is just another one scaremongering, clearly.

Sounds great

It’ll be the hauliers’ fault if it’s not the EU’s. It’s important to get the message out there now that it’s definitely, definitely not our government’s fault if it all goes tits up which it definitely won’t anyway and if you suggest it might you’re just a remoaner undermining Brexit.

No queues in France though

Johnson just said 'a stitch in time saves nine' again. Does anyone even know what this means? Not sure this new slogan is going to work - more than three words is too difficult for people.

It’s some of the more sound thinking by the standards of this government since this thing began tbf. Shame they didn’t have such wisdom in February but then it was always a tough call between doing something and sitting there hoping it would miraculously go away.

Blimey I just listed to Keir Starmer... zzzzzz how bland and boring. Just no charisma for PM material. next loser in waiting.

If you were going to invest your kids inheritance, would you put it in the hands of someone who could talk and explain the what's why's and where's or would you give it to someone who had a history of bad investments but had a bit of charisma?
