Was just talking to another of my mates still at BA (who is totally pissed off that is hasn’t been ‘furloughed’) about Starmer. He’s more to the centre than me and sees it as a good thing...after all it’s no good upholding real socialist principles but not being in government to implement them due to the fact that the general public have been so ingrained to ‘look after yourself’....I guess they can afford to lose people like me........a case of damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

I feel your pain mate I really do and in a just society i probably wouldn’t have plumped for Starmer, but as we are currently up against a government who can hand out contracts to their donors who are unable to provide even a fraction of other companies and their supporters couldn’t care less about this corruption that will see people die. It’s a much lesser evil for me.
Totally get that mate, and I think the vast majority of the membership and voters will feel the same...........I just can’t do it.
As I said before, I would expect TUSC to reform for people like me.....can’t see us winning any seats in the future but at least i’ll be happy
It has to be someone who gives Labour a chance of being in power. No point being overtly principled at the expense of being able to convince Tony the scaffolder from Walsall that maybe the Tories aren’t really looking out for him. It shouldn’t be that way but a bloke has more chance of winning.
No doubt the usual sources will do their hatchet job on him once Corona is quickly forgotten but they can do less of one on Starmzy than the others. Bailey would’ve just been laughed out of Westminster.
Being politically where I am, I would of course have preferred Bailey.
But yeah, your point is completely correct. I guess Starmer at least has a chance and will probably force the Tories into giving in to more socialist policies (like their budget was)

The problem is although Starmer is no Jezza
he is still part of the Previous muppet show. No one will vote for labour because unlike the Tories that had a cull of the deadwood and brought in fresh-faced droids, Labour still has Abbott/Jezza/Thornberry and the rest of the north London 2222show. Never learn.

He’ll do a re-shuffle. I doubt he’s counting on convincing actual unashamed Tory members even if he can win back some lost votes.
The best news for Labour is that Corbyn the loser has gone. Starmer is smart and articulate. But he'll have a hell of a job regaining control from the hard left band that were behind Corbyn and we may see some firework internals in Labour, which is not what they need, but I can't see Corbynites being marginalised and going quietly.
Starmer is not charismatic, but then neither was John Major and he became PM. The second problem I see for Starmer after internal strife, is that he was an unapologetic Remainer, never accepted the 2016 result and wanted a second referendum and unlimited free movement of people. That is not going to win over all those once Labour voters in the North that voted blue at the last election.

The thing is Goldie Corbyn hasn't gone. Or he has but only to the backbenches with the muppet show. Labour missed a good chance a while back by not getting David Millibland in as leader. I cannot see Labour in for many years (which for me is a good thing). However, I do like a strong opposition but sadly even with Mr Charismatic they a long way off.
As I see it there are three camps in Labour. Blairites, Starmerites and Corbynites. The Corbynites have had a communist like power over the party and I just can't see them giving it up easily. Starmer has to have his own team on the front bench or they'll pull the rug from under him. That means denying Corbynites and then there'll be trouble. Labour will only stand a chance of getting into power if they are a united party. I don't think Starmer is strong enough to do that
Hit the nail on the head Goldie... 3 factions within a party is not good. That's why Boris got rid of the 'remoaners' and brought in Boris droids.

Just funny Ellers how it was only a week or so ago that you were saying about people who disliked them, shouldn’t be commenting on the ****servative party and how they run themselves....it’s almost as though you think it should be ‘do as I say, don’t say as I do’

Hung parliament?
I remember a while back when I said I listened to the radio and many labour supporters were phoning in saying they wouldn't vote for Corbyn... I remember the response I got from some on this thread... I shall have to dig it out at some point and remind myself what the 'experts' said.
I'm glad the politics thread has started to get a few more posts now, as it went very quiet a while back
