The BBC news has been going big on the 75th anniversary. Interviews with French people who were around at the time last night, which were really interesting. Lots of controversy about the huge numbers of French civilians killed during the invasion, 20,000 in Caen alone. Though one brilliant lady, a former member of the resistance, was pretty scathing about those who criticise the allies, saying words to the effect of ‘who else was going to save us? We were incapable of liberating ourselves. Am I supposed to demand an apology from the 10,000 Americans in the war cemetery down the road?’.


Sadly Ubes there are plenty of white power and neo Nazi bands around, lists of them on Wikipedia. Don’t know if they are still going but Skrewdriver were a nasty British example, and a lot of Oi! music went in that direction. I haven’t investigated their lyrics because it’s breakfast time. The exact moral equivalent of these left wing hate peddlers, with whom they have much more in common than they would like to admit. Best to ignore the lot and shame on Glastonbury for giving them a platform. Protest through song is fine and has a long and honourable tradition, pathetic incitement to violence is something different.

They do have a lot in common Stan - class war and race war can, very easily, intertwine. If I can convince someone to hate the bosses more than they hate the blacks - are they suddenly left wing ? They're still a moron whatever label they carry. Maybe we need to redefine what we mean by 'left' and 'right' because Marx and Engels were both racist as hell.

Do people still vote for a party because it is what their parents voted for or because of where they were born

I’m reminded of Elvis Costello’s song about tramping to soul down on Maggie’s grave too (recorded long before her death). I rather like Costello’s music, but thought that track somewhat let him down. Shame on Jeremy Vine for once playing it on his Radio 2 lunchtime show some years back.

I always took pride in the fact that an album like "Our Favourite Shop" by the Style Council could get to No. 1. It was pretty much a sustained 50 minute attack on the Thatcher government and I still think it's one of my favourite albums ever. But they didn't resort to this kind of abuse - nor did The Men They couldn't Hang - another "protest" type band who are one of my favourites. It's not necessary and it takes away from any point you might want to make. Nice to see the Jo Cox Foundation condemning this though - important to acknowledge that this isn't a party political issue.

My bad. Yes, of course I’m aware of the extreme hate pedlars (or do they come at you in Raleigh Grifters?)

I guess what I meant to say by way of qualification was whether such groups are given the same access to Glastonbury or Radio 2. Obviously not, and for good reason.

You really couldn't make it up, apparently she was an activist in an Israeli hate group. And now Jezza is moaning about the 'nasty' media. He really needs to look at some of the vile social media of his followers to anyone who isn't as rabidly left wing as them, especially the Jews...

S’funny how he criticises our fawning over a Trump US trade deal - citing how awful the man is - yet surely he doesn’t have quite the metaphorical and literal blood on his hands (yet?) of Xi Jinping or King Salman and their chums. Salman’s allowed to jizz in our hair for a trade deal and Maj does triple salchows and double toe loops for Xi.
