Regardless of the comparison with the US, I am heartened by only 15% of Western Europeans believing in God with absolute certainty, and to have my suspicions confirmed that most people who think of themselves as Christian don’t actually think it’s very important.

The stats for Western Europe are heartening, yes, but those for the US are frightening. How about the rest of the world? I imagine the Middle East would be pretty certain about the existence of God, but what about Russia or China, I wonder?

I really think (sadly) that the numbers for Western Europe - which were taken three years after the US ones - have been impacted by the state of the US right-wing 'so called evangelical' community, which, on biblical definition is anything BUT Christian. Having such a vocal majority completely distort the very tenets the faith is based upon must be pushing people to deny being a Christian (much as Peter did after the Cruxifiction, according to the NT). who'd want to go on record as being of the same religion as many of those bigoted, racist homophobes that purport to be followers of Christ, when their actions clearly demonstrate the opposite?

Have a look at the figures in red, which show that the majority of the Europeans who are happy to call themselves Christian don’t actually have much belief or commitment to it.

Elsewhere, Lord Nigel Lawson, disastrous chancellor and chairman of the Leave EU campaign, who is always available for TV and radio to have a go at Europe, is applying for permanent residency in France, where he lives.

what an absolute tart.

Get the country to vote one thing but do the exact opposite

There was a Tory MP on the radio today and the interviewer completely failed in her obligation to spend five minutes quizzing him about Islamophobia in the Tory party before allowing him to speak about the subject he had been expecting to talk about. What's going on?

Some stuff I heard yesterday from someone I trust who has legitimate high level contacts with US security agencies.

Both the CIA and FBI hate Trump (no real surprise there)
Trump will not stand for a second term - he is bored and frustrated by being President, and never expected to get the job.
Russian interference in the US election made a material difference to the result
The Russians do have highly damaging information on Trump and he knows it

If travelling to Moscow or St Petersburg be aware that many rooms in most international standard hotels have spy cameras installed. And all of the very attractive hookers in the lobby are in the employ of Russian security services.

Quite possibly all bollocks, but a fun chat over a couple of pints of excellent Ubu, made by Purity Brewing Co of Alcester, Warwickshire.

Dunno about the Trump stuff but the bit about hotels is true. I saw it in St Petersburg a few years ago. Scary stuff tbh.

The security info is most definitely accurate.
