That's because they're to the right of you, Oz :emoticon-0100-smile
Maybe, though I don't know enough about them in the UK today to know really Goldie. From Col and your comments they are obviously both well to the left of you! It wasn't so long ago the LibDems were enabling a Tory Government rather than a Labour one and despite the positive noise they have made about Brexit, I don't really trust them yet. Greens priority are Green, Internationally at least, good on them. Where they stand on other matters is usually secondary for them.

They're all just labels to use as terms of abuse, or to evoke tribal responses and avoid doing any thinking. It's true that the views of those who we would have called the centre in the '70s are now described as the left. It's a by product of how political thinking and terminology has shifted over to the right during that period.

Try this. Imagine that you're looking at a political clock face. 12 o'clock is the centre. Going clockwise takes you further to the right. Going anti-clockwise takes you further to the left. If you go anti-clockwise all the way to the ultra-left just before 6 o'clock. It's only a small nudge until you're now bang in the middle of the ultra-right. Close, aren't they? And so similar in so many ways...

Yes, the Lib Dems are to the left of my political thinking. I'll let Col speak for himself. If you strip out Brexit issues, I might find more in common if I knew what their policies were and could be sure they wouldn't reverse them in government, if they ever again get in (and I accept Brexit's not a left/right issue). The Green's have some interesting ideas on the environment, but otherwise are batty, with batty leaders. I think we agree on this.

SKY are doing a good job at the moment, publicising the plastic in the oceans which is getting into the food chain. And as for the wet wipes, which are clogging are drains and covering our beaches, why don't we just ban them? - generations before managed without them

It's called the Horseshoe Theory.

Sky have been doing a good job about plastic. It is a huge world wide problem.

Seeing as this is the thread where we celebrate our European cousins, I think this is appropriate.

I was coming home this evening as a family was walking past the front of my house, with a six/seven year old girl with a nasty cough in tow.

The mum said, in a strong Irish accent "I know you have a cough, but could you not try breathing for a bit instead?"
The response, in an equally strong accent: "I've got a feckin' cough!"

Had to get inside fast before I started laughing.

Apparently some people in Skegness (98.7% white British population) are upset by this image. Despite the fact that 76% of them voted Leave.

And I can understand why they did. Who in their right minds would want to go to Skegness for their summer holidays when they can go to Greece or Spain for half the price? It's all about unfair competition. Successive governments should have slapped punitive custom duties and tariffs on people wanting sun and cheap Sangria in order to protect our first class resorts like Skeggy. But they couldn't because of the bureaucrats in Brussels. If UKIP try to clam credit for that line tell 'em you heard it here first and let me know so that I can rant about plagiarism.

So will those that congratulated Trump for his action against Assad be equally happy for him to take aim at North Korea?

The safety of the planet is in the hands of a capricious narcissist.

I must admit that I'm a tad worried about this build up of tension between North Korea and Trumps very imperialistic foreign "America 1st" policy.

Could this really turn nasty?

Very worrying times. Anyone see the clip where he actually said he'd just authorised a missile attack on Iraq? Just a little mistake, he meant Syria.

Yes, it seems Trump being a business man has little time for diplomacy and a very itchy trigger finger, sadly!

He's a man child. He's used to waking up when he wants, maybe climbing on top of a supermodel for two minutes and spending the day doing whatever he fancies doing. If he wants to play toy soldiers he'll do everything in his power to make it happen.

To be honest I thought he was just playing the fool to appeal to the inbred voters in mid-America. Sadly not.

I'm as worried as the next person about the way things are at the moment.

However, If North Korea manages to obtain the capability of launching a nuclear missile I think there's more chance of them attacking another Country with nukes than either Trump, Putin or the Chinese. North Korea reminds me of Germany in the 30s, with the brainwashing of their people and a nutter in charge! I don't think the World can allow North Korea to get nukes and I would back action to prevent them from doing so.
