Well, the only thing stopping him launching a defamation action to clear his name is...the fact that he would almost certainly lose because most or all of the allegations are true and can be proved. That isn't a denial of justice.

Huh? How can you possibly know that the allegations are true? And how can they be proved?

I'm not referring to criminal allegations, but civil. He has acknowledged his own conduct in the past. For instance, it would be hard to refute using his position of power to groom or close to it, when he's had known sexual relationships with junior staff, runners and others, and a 16 year old girl. He's even apologised for his conduct on occasion by text and Dispatches has seen those and verified his mobile number. That included the alleged rape. I'm saying many of the allegations can be proven to the necessary civil standard ie on the balance of probabilities.

Whether Dispatches passes the file to the police is another matter. Then, the burden of proof is much higher. Kevin Spacey beat the criminal rap. But has he cleared his name in his industry? It would still be open to his accused to sue him in the civil court, but they may not have the necessary funds to bring an action. The entertainment industry will build this into whether it wants to continue to work with Spacey.

Yeah watching it now…..but other than the first girl, who alleges he raped her……it all seems to be girls who had sex with him by consent.
I’m a big fan of his so almost certainly biased. My opinion is tainted

I am at the opposite end of the spectrum, in that I have always considered Brand to be a complete knob.
However, having just watched the programme, there doesn't seem to be any real evidence of anything illegal. Allegations, but no evidence.
What seems to be in no doubt is that Brand in those days when he was at the height of his fame was a sexual predator who would shag anything that moved.
Woman after woman offered themselves to him openly and these women were clearly vacuous groupies looking to get laid by a famous bloke or hoping to get on in TV.
He was clearly a misogynistic, sexual predator who got off on the control he exerted over these stupid women . I'm always wary of more and more allegations coming to light, many years after the alleged events.
I do suspect that his political views are a possible reason for this exposè, with the BBC and CH4 wanting him discredited, along with, arguably, the establishment who don't like his views.
Either way, it does seem that these broadcasters ignored many, many opportunities to bring him to account over his treatment of women. They have previous in this regard.
Listening to the stuff he came out with back then is unthinkable in this day and age. Even on mainstream radio he was talking about a newsreader on his programme in a completely inappropriate, sexual manner.
It does appear to have been an open secret among many women that they shouldn't allow themselves to be alone with him.
There may be more to come out, but it feels like a possible witch hunt against a very, very odious, misogynistic man.

Excellent post, Col. Sums it up well. Those in his industry knew what he was like. At the time, it suited program-makers to cover it up, because he was making them money. Now that he's not, he's fair game, and his reputation in the industry will be his reputation in the wider world. He can do little or nothing about that. At the end of the day, he's the author of his own misfortunes.

Are the police involved in this bollocks at all or is it the sort of thing where the evidence isn’t strong enough for that but is just strong enough for the media’s legal teams to calculate they won’t be sued, or will win a libel case?

Either way I hope it goes away quickly.
