Nice, but the article says the rise in pets resulted in shortage of dog food. It's probably dog owners that are buying it, I would have thought.
But as we know, during those times people were utter ****s and bought more items than they would ever use, without any reason other than greed and fear. It doesn’t in anyway show that more pets, and specifically dogs were being purchased.
Happy to be convinced if you can show some clear evidence
There was a report from the RSPCA last week about behavioral problems with "covid puppies" as the come of age.

Much of that was driven by demand for fashionable breeds such as French bulldogs and cross-breeds such as Cockapoos, with more animals being imported without pet passports or bought from the internet.
Steels has already given evidence so I’m more tending to believe now.

Actually a lot easier for short people to do most lifts. Lower range of motion.
