**** it, bin it and start again, you only hear of them when they do stuff like yesterday which just highlights what an anarchronism it is. What is a second chamber for? Primarily to suggest amendments to legislation proposed by the first chamber I think. To do that you need experienced, professional people not a bunch of people appointed by patronage.

I think they are supposed to be experienced, professional people aren't they? Perhaps they should be passed by some independent body before they can take their places. What mustn't be allowed is William Rees-Moggs proposal that Cameron create 100 new Tory peers to ensure a majority.

Agreed.

Were these 'Tax Credit Cuts' in the Tory manifesto?

Not specifically. They said they were going to cut £12 billion from the welfare bill, but didn't say how. Of course, they didn't expect to have to come up with the answers, because they didn't really expect to win.

Edit - As Sooper just said <doh>

The Tories claimed to be 'the party of the workers', some party...
No, and they were explicitly ruled out by Cameron during the televised debates.

Thank you. So why are they doing this? ( Rhetorical question. ) A potential financial gain of £3.5 - 4 bn which is a snip when you consider that state spending is somewhere in the region of £650 bn. I'm sure Osborne can find this money in other ways. This seems to be a battle of choice rather than one of necessity. This shows us that the Tories are truly cruel and out of touch. They asked for the low-paid families to trust them and when they did this and thought that the Tories were on their side. Even after being defeated by the Lords, which is the first time in 100 years that a financial package has been voted down, Osborne still plans to drive this through in the Autumn with a reformed plan which will achieve the same financial goal which will achieve the same result as attempted here. They are evil and rotten to the core and now we are hearing that in the minutes after the votes, David Cameron suggested the government would seek retribution for the defeat.

I don't know whether 'child tax credits' are any different to what is being cut, but this is what he said in April:

What's that all about? What button is it?
next to the one like a film frame you use to post videos there is a little button with a + sign in it, with these strange gizmos hidden there. What the 'spoiler' one does is a complete mystery to me, and the 'code' one not far behind....

I've never noticed that one before. I don't know if you saw my post the other night about the gremlins wiping out some of the site and the Supermods locking stuff down? But it looks like you may have a st of Supermods tools!!!!

I did see that post mate, and the picture banner is still getting on my nerves. Now if only I can learn how to use these magical tools....and what will I do with them? There must be a Supermod training course.......

I know, those pictures are ****e but I've had no answer back about them despite asking. I suspect that Maltese Mick is using them as a way of making the site pay for itself but won't say. If you do possess these magical tools you have the power to ban or reinstate anyone you want. You can also edit or make posts disappear. You would also have access to the Mods forum. :emoticon-0136-giggl

I don't know if I can trust myself with such power, I must resist it's use for the good of all. For I would be a cruel and vengeful Mod, smiting all and sundry from afar for imagined infringements of my arcane and incomprehensible rules.......as you well know.

Yes indeed. There is that potential that you'd end up posting away to yourself as you'll have gotten rid of everyone that either annoys, bores, or doesn't agree with you. Shall we give it a go? Maybe you'd decide to become more moderate. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Anyway, back on track ... has anyone seen this ? ...
