I’m aware France and Germany, as the nations of choice whenever you need to feel less of a stupid gammon **** for supporting the Tories, are imperfect.
As I say, you're an idiot and a complete waste of space, pal

Oh, dear.
The "stupid gammon ****" is alright though, right, Strolls?
Watford has to realised that noncing, and gammoning and ****ing and calling me Hitler just doesn't formulate an argument. I feel it's like dealing with an autistic child.

We don’t really do mass protest in this country though. We riot, like in 2011, when the right wing press called for a very French response from the police, or we do the polite picketing or well organised marches that we’ve seen over the last few months. The ecology protests are very small scale by comparison, peaceful though irritating, and the police have been criticised for not being forceful enough when they block roads etc.About as much as I support Extinction Rebellion, which is a no. But I'd be disgusted to see British police wading in and cracking ER protesters's heads.
The more violence the police use, the more violent will become the protesters. That's what's happened in France. That's why we don't used water cannons here. I would have thought you'd approve of that.

I admire the inclination of the French to stand up for themselves by getting on the streets. It’s a shame the Black Bloc faction infiltrate protests and spark violence, but I think all the peaceful protesters have hardwired this and the response from Les flics in by now, they know what to expect.
In this particular instance, the argument about pension rights, it will be fascinating to see what happens. Macron would surely never have taken this on unless he was convinced that it had to be done. It’s a sure fire vote loser. The populists on left and right happy to capitalise on it. It’s akin to our government (of whatever party) actually trying to get to grips with the cost of social and health care for the elderly, instead of perpetually kicking the can down the road. I don’t like Macron but I kind of admire him for this just as I admire the ordinary people protesting against him. I don’t admire the politicians of other parties trying to gain advantage while not advancing any solution to the problem of funding state pensions with an aging workforce. We are far from out of the woods on this, the triple lock, which I will personally benefit from in a few years time, is an insanely generous grey vote bribe.
