I’ve only ever called the emergency services once, a few years ago when I found that dead bloke in the park. I’ve had plod knocking on my door a couple of times though, and have dragged myself and others to A&E more times than I care to remember.

It’s beyond me what these dickheads think an emergency is. They are a spectacular combination of selfishness and stupidity. Can the numbers that these frequent flyers call from be highlighted and then simply ignored or blocked? I know the answer of course….

Hopefully the consequences of not giving the ambulance staff and nurses a decent pay rise and review of working conditions are filtering through, though the media isn’t helping and Barclay seems to want to insult any union member rather than talk. The government might ultimately ‘win’ and buy people off with some promises about next year or future deals, but the result will be many more people simply leaving the NHS and even the clinical professions entirely, thus making a health service which is pretty obviously in a state of collapse anyway crumble even faster, as already stressed staff get even higher anxiety by worsening working conditions. Decent pay and proper career progress make people happy to stay in the professions they have been expensively trained for, help recruit new people and reduce the need for agency staff and recruiting abroad.

It’s ****ing blindingly obvious. So much so that I suspect that Sunak wants the NHS to collapse so he can impose some hideously corrupt private system instead. I’m all for reform and change in the NHS which is obviously in need of it, but not along ideological lines.

'That’s the standard technique of privatization: defund, make sure things don’t work, people get angry, you hand it over to private capital"

    Noam Chomsky.

He omitted to say - then, when it fails, bail it out.

One thing that really did shock me when I started was the number of “regulars” we have……and yes we do try to highlight them and that they don’t possibly need an emergency response, however the service is, in my opinion, very risk averse and we don’t like to say no…possibly due to the bad press that we would inevitably get if, and when, the occasion does arise that these people are actually properly sick.
Adding to the “regulars”, you of course have the time wasters…the ones that should really be able to treat or look after themselves….the period pains….headaches….hangovers…..Pyrexia….sore throats….D&V….is it any wonder there aren’t enough ambulance to go round for the genuinely sick ?
I can honestly say that no one in the Ambulance service does the job for money alone…and genuinely feel that most, if not all, do it because they have a real desire to do good for people.
After hearing some of Barclay’s comments today…..most feel very let down.

When I’m in an idealistic mood Chomsky’s political outlook is similar to mine, though he does paste on the conspiracy perspective a bit much for me. I don’t understand his linguistic stuff at all, and I’m not in a (politically) idealistic mood very often. A towering figure though, actual influence far beyond the number of people who know his name.

But that’s the trap that your lot want us to fall into Goldie…….that “they” deserve a pay rise more than “them”……a way of dividing us and a way of keeping us at bay and at their disposal.
I’m no more deserved of decent pay and hard fought for conditions, than a train driver, a cleaner a postal worker or a nurse…..we all, as working people, deserve that.

Yeah, I understand solidarity, Stainsey, and not wanting employers or government pitching one worker against another. But, in practice, if Rail won't modernise and lose some ridiculous Spanish practices which frustrate the public, your cause would be improved if it distanced itself.

Does that include the made up ones that simply don’t exist ? You know, the ones like if someone is spoken to during their break then their break has to start again from the beginning ?
To believe their lies is yet again, falling into their trap.

Would definitely have its advantages…..however, like the Left often does, I’m guessing it wouldn’t be long to split into factions and infighting.

Even if Unison, which is far from a general Union, got all its members in the public service to act in support of each other it would be a jolt to the system.

But as I write that I realise it’s probably illegal. ****ers. Bet Starmer won’t fix that. I ponder joining the IWW occasionally, but end up wondering why, I’m highly unlikely to do anything as a result. It would be an act of hypocrisy, like wearing a badge, which I’m comfortable with most of the time but this would be a step too far.

What was the atmosphere like on the line today?

Was really good mate…..very jovial, friendly and not too noisy so as to not annoy the neighbours too much.
Didn’t have any bad feedback at all from the public, something which I personally had feared….and in fact we had biscuits, chocolates, cakes and even a case of beer brought over !!!
Lots and lots of “toots” in support and has really made me more positive about the whole thing.
Ready and waiting now for the next one………

It must be lies by The Times then, because it was reported there along with a number of others. The RMT are dinosaurs.

Nurses in Scotland to strike after rejecting pay deal from NHS
please log in to view this image

Nurses in Scotland are set to strike after voting down the latest pay offer for NHS workers.

Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Scotland members rejected an average increase of 7.5%. The union said it was planning for industrial action and would announce dates early next year.

Royal College of Midwives (RCM) members also rejected the pay deal.

Health Secretary Humza Yousaf said he was disappointed but would continue negotiations with unions.

In the RCN ballot that closed on Monday, 82% voted against the offer.

Are you saying the media would never lie ? If you could point to an occasion that this practice has taken place then I would be genuinely interested. Until then I’m afraid I’ll take it to be the usual media bollox.
