I really have no idea why you've come to despise me Stainesy, and I really don't care much what you think of me. The continual abuse does get a bit wearing, though. I haven't abandoned anything, and my ideas and principles remain the same as they always were. I'm not sure you could say the same.

Don’t be silly Strolls......I’ve never said a word that I despise you. And I’ve definitely never given you continuous abuse.
I’m just saying it as I see, you may not agree, as is your right of course, however doesn’t mean I’m gonna hold back on my opinions.

Did you watch the documentary on Sky about him ? Very moving and really sad the way he was treated, especially after winning the title.
Nobody liked him, including a lot of the black population and other black fighters and certainly the civil rights movement. He was treated appallingly by law enforcement, but was also a hardened criminal. A tragic story. I’ve just watched the second bout with Ali on YouTube, I can see why people thought Liston threw it, it doesn’t look like a big enough punch to down him, but who knows what it felt like.

Liston plays a (fictional) role in James Elroy’s The Cold Six Thousand, set in Vegas (and Vietnam) in the late sixties.

Absolutely mate.....he was a hired thug for much of his life, and poorly educated. Sadly a victim of his upbringing . When he returned to his home town and after winning the belt, only to have no one there to celebrate with him, I feel was a real turning point in his life after.
Agree about the Ali fight....looked like he threw the fight and probability is that he did.

I'd never expect you to hold back on your opinions, but when it comes to maligning my character, which seems to have become your favoured form of dialogue, I do consider it to be personal abuse. Still, Col enjoys it.

When it comes to maligning peoples' character, you do it all the time.
You're just getting a bit of your own medicine.

To be fair though Strolls, when it comes to maligning of character, wasn’t it you that called me ‘Nigel’ for some bizarre reason (I can only assume it was referring to Farage as we were also talking about illegal immigration). Of course that’s just one example
You see none of us are innocent when it comes to personal abuse and yours and Bracknells treatment of Col is sometimes quite appalling so you can hardly play the angel.
It’s just what happens on the board and no real harm is meant I’m sure.

Looks like I might have a bit of time on my hands to read a few books soon.
Just finishing Paul Sykes book about when he got out of prison and boxing, then onto Sonny Listons autobiography….then up for more suggestions.
That along with hours of TV and podcasts will mean I’ve got plenty to do
Had many good conversations with the late Paul Sykes mate. Often seen as a bully and I believe he was around his area. However, he was a very clever, articulate man but with some very neanderthal views. Could tell you some tales

One of my lads bought me his book for Christmas mate. He obviously had quite a traumatic life and upbringing. Seems from what I’ve read he was manipulated quite a bit by those around him....that’s my thoughts anyway.
A good read, if like me you’re into that kind of thing, ex boxers, thugs, hooligans etc

My brother in laws dad interviewed him and did a part documentary. Very interesting guy but could turn in a heartbeat. Told his sons that doing time was a necessary part of learning in life. He actually told me that himself in Armley prison. His eldest was at the time serving life for murder!

Wasn’t he a football hooligan with Leeds ? Or was it another team ?

I thought I'd check this out (something you seemingly didn't bother to do) and this relates to a story from 2010 when Kinnock was living in Denmark but working in Switzerland.

In June 2010, the Danish tabloid newspaper B.T. accused Kinnock of tax evasion.[12] At that time, he was paying tax in Switzerland where his workplace was situated, and where he had declared his main residence, although his wife's political website stated that "The family lives in Østerbro in Copenhagen".[13] The couple had previously stated to the media that Kinnock would spend his weekends in Denmark, sometimes including Thursday, and that he regarded his home and base as being exclusively with his family in Copenhagen. According to the newspaper, he would possibly exceed 183 days a year in Denmark, meaning he would be fully taxable there. His wife rebutted the accusations but said the couple would ask the Danish tax authority for an audit.[14][15] The audit was concluded on 17 September 2010, and concluded that "Mr Kinnock does not have tax liability for 2007, 08, or 09, as he does not reside in this country within the meaning of the Danish Tax at Sources Act"

He became a UK MP in 2014.

It's bullshit.
