I didn’t see it, didn’t Neville do the obvious and say that the dirty money was going straight to gay and/or human rights charities? Or does he need it to put a new roof on the shed? I saw a trailer with him painfully reading from the auto cue. Have to say I haven’t watched HIGNFY for years, perhaps decades. No special dislike, just always something preferable to do or watch.
Just put the clip I get sent on the thread. Gonna watch the whole episode late but assume this might be the best bit. I’m the same as you G, only watch HIGNFY very rarely nowadays, and that’s only when there is someone who I’d like to see on there ( like Mick Lynch a few weeks ago). I lost a lot of interest when they started changing the presenter every week…..Angus Deayton was perfect for the role and it lost a bit of its shine when he left.
Think there’s a big difference between Neville going there to commentate and the likes of Beckham taking the coin to actively promote Qatar.
He’s commentating for Qatari owned beIN Sports. Does that make any difference? He has also complained that Qatar gets treated more harshly than Saudi or UAE over human rights. Sounds like he’s got some kind of PR role, not just commentating.
Just watched it now…..Neville is truly the most wooden presenter I’ve seen and as you rightly said, he can’t even hide the fact that he’s reading off an autocue (I know they all do but at least some try to look like and act like they are being witty and spontaneous) He actually got off very lightly and the Clip I posted was the main time he got roasted over his hypocrisy. Shame as they could have made it a classic, like when Deayton got caught doing coke and whores.
Neville got roasted, so pleased especially after he made a crack about the Lionesses being so much better after they got rid of Phil Neville. Phil Neville got it started, he did nothing wrong... Uncalled for, stooopid joke. Liked the outtake of Richard Madeley at the end
I thought Madeley came over real well to be fair and seemed like he probably has got a sense of humour. I wouldn’t worry about the Phil Neville joke….it was obviously scripted and in his reading of it, he couldn’t be more wooden if he tried. Really liked the female comedian…….I’ve seen a bit of her stuff before and wasn’t that impressed but now I might look her up again
The build up has been very low key....is it because England have looked poor, thus expectations low, or are the media outlets doing their bit too?
There just doesn't seem to be that general interest in it. Another factor is it breaking up the top flights season.
