I can see the defences of this action being put together now, every one of which will just emphasise that labour is a commodity, people don’t count.
Totally mate…..these rich **** bosses sit in their offices, dealing in profit and don’t give a **** that every single sacking is someone’s life who has changed forever. Someone who now can’t feed or care for their family. I hate those ****s with a passion.
Good to see the condemnation from all sides over the disgusting behaviour from P & O ferries. Even right wing rags like The Express and The Mail are calling them out over this. Hopefully popular opinion will have its day.....adding to the fact that this action is probably illegal. On a personal note I’m having yet another yearning to seek pastures new and change my job....I’m guessing my crew mate and I being assaulted, her getting worse of it than me, yesterday has pushed that to the front of my mind. Gone are the days of doing 50 years somewhere, getting a gold watch at the end of it and a clap from all the bosses as you walk out of the door. I was feeling buzzed on adrenaline yesterday.....today I’m just feeling down.
I spent 17 years working onboard P&O ferries (I left 4 years ago). When I joined the company stood out from it's rivals because of its' quality of service. Since DPW bought it its become a symbol of doing things on the cheap. I still have/had many friends on board some of who have not had any other job since they left school. Even though I'm well out of it I was so angry yesterday because I know this has upset a lot of good people.
Owned by a Dubai based company that made massive profits and took tax payers money for furlough. Who will sail with them now? Not many
Bastard news on the assault mate. Hope the perpetrators were detained and your colleague is ok. Must be shattering for the nerves, **** like this.
Thankyou lads. To be honest I can’t hold any malice to the patient…old, female and had dementia. But as strong as an Ox and it turned out could turn violent in a split second….was sad to see and that’s what’s now upsetting me more. I only got scratches (I moved too quickly when she tried to bite me) but crewmate was bitten, had her fingers bent back and was kicked in the head. I laughed about it yesterday……today I just feel drained. I’ve honestly had enough…….
Told you that you should've pushed the old bastard down the stairs....unfortunately it's a very common experience for medical staff, be it paramedics, GPs, or nurses (especially in A&E). Don't know what it's like down there, but there's a zero tolerance policy in the Scottish NHS and ALL assaults are reported to the police (even if the old ****er has got dementia)
Honestly wasn’t her fault mate…..she was scared and didn’t know what was going on……just one of those things. Hope I’ll feel better about it all in a couple of days.
Makes more sense now I know the circumstances…..I was struggling to imagine the Stainsey I know not having a proper go back……
That’s the thing….if it was a drunk youth kicking out I probably may have handled it far better and not been so gentle, even under provocation. But hearing an old lady call out for her mummy has really moved me to actual tears. I feel broken
Sorry to hear about the assault on you and your crew mate. I hope she is OK and please send her our best wishes for a quick recovery from all of us on here. Assaulting people is becoming all too frequent and a scourge on our society where most people are honest, humane individuals.
