Weak leadership in the US was a definite factor in the timing of all this.
Yes, and it doesn't look like its getting any stronger judging by Biden's performance today. China must be warching closely re Taiwan. Putin's invasion of Ukraine cannot be seen to succeed.
And we really need the Russians to get rid of him themselves, otherwise it gets very messy.
How many ****ing news anchors do our TV stations need reading autocues in Kyiv?
The yanks are quick to send a drone over Afghanistan to take out a Taliban despot should be easy to send one to Moscow to wipe out this blood nutcase

As Stan mentioned, the fact that Putin has come on tv and basically threatened the world with nuclear weapons is a scary and worrying development. The man is is obviously as nutty as a box of frogs as could do anything
So where do we go from here ?
I see only 2 options that are good for the world..either he gets taken out by his own regime as someone, or group of generals, realise where this is going and decide to oust him.
Or we in the West let him have Ukraine, set up a puppet government and kick the can down the road until the next ‘situation’ occurs
Neither are perfect but then again, it’s better than Nuclear Holocaust

Now he’s got the Bradford job it’ll be harder.
If that was a realistic solution to this particular challenge it would have been done already. Sadly it would just reinforce and justify Russian suspicion of the West/US, and make things worse.
I can’t see much beyond these two possibilities. I hope it’s the first one, and it happens quickly, and then we reset our relationship with Russia.
As just said to Staines, any assasination attempt has to be either Russian or Ukranian - we have to keep our hands clean else it'll just end up in a disaster. And, whoever does it, they need to make sure it's done right, or we're in one hell of a mess
