Was anyone triggered by this going to vote Labour anyway?

 

As long as the are on the electoral roll I don’t care. She will be using EU citizens next.
Although she is a nasty wee Kranky she has a bit of an advantage over Westminster.
I believe that if there was an referendum now the Kranky would lose. If she pushes for one and the Tories try and stop her then people in Scotland will get upset and more will turn against the government. She will want to wait so she can brainwash a few more. I personally would take a gamble and say okay you can have one next year. The economy would be in a much better shape and it would force her hand. She would then not want one and lose face amongst the locals. All hypothetical but the long it’s left the more support she will get.

 

I suspect it was at least one nail in the coffin for some in Hartlepool who don't want a virtue signalling prime minister.

George Floyd wasn't murdered in the UK. But Starmer's kneely stuff plays to the belief that Labour are ashamed of the country they want to lead.

It does play to that belief but I’d argue anyone who believes that is too far gone to be won back. I’m not denying it’s a massive problem for Labour but there are winnable battles out there and Hartlepool isn’t one of them. Very high home ownership, very high percentage White British non-higher education so the numbers aren’t there in places with that and that haven’t felt a Brexit impact. Chasing people willing to vote for this Tory party is a mug’s game. Even if they gain some ground the goalposts will be moved again and people who pretend to reluctantly vote Tory will throw their hands in the air and say they have no choice.

 

The knee wasn't just about Floyd but his death brought it about. If he hadn't died, Starmer would not have been photographed in that position.

The problem for Labour is that the winnable battles are getting scarce. In Scotland, once a bastion of support for Labour, they are gone. In the North of England, more than a century's worth of tradition of voting Labour by families involved in mines and manufacturing is being broken. The Labour of Jeremy Corbyn had little relevance to the voters there.

So currently in the UK, Labour must rely on Wales, the odd pocket in rural England, inner cities and university students. Can it be turned around? I won't say never, but it needs a groundswell of change like we saw when Blair came in, with some pretty bright operators behind him. If Labour move to the left, to a model closer to socialism, they'll fail in my view. England, anyway, is not receptive to socialism. Voters are aspirational. They have no problem in one person making lots of money, so long as they have a fair chance of doing something similar for themselves and their own families.

 

It’s funny that if you vote Tory you’re a mug but voting for Labour is somehow okay? We do have some stupid people in this country.
Talking of Labour, I hear they may drop the working class voters and aim for young graduates. This must be this months idea from the ‘London elitists club’.

 

Have not been on this post for ages, due to people swearing at each other and taking things a bit to far. So just had a look now. Didn't Hartlepool vote by 70% for Brexit? And Labour put a remain person to stand? Or am I wrong again.

 

You’ve completely misread my post then. Well done.

There are plenty of genuine working class people open to voting Labour as demonstrated in cities. It’s not a status limited to old blokes who have spent decades muttering to themselves in the pub about foreigners. Graduates generally aren’t well paid or in any meaningful way elite.

 

Yeah it was a bit of a silly thing to do although even if they had fielded a leaver they still would have lost. I think Labour has lost the plot

Well they have as much right to vote as you do. I’m only questioning something you said.

 

Ellers, agree Labour has lost the plot. Can't see them getting back in for at least another 2 terms.

 

Maybe they should change direction. They have tried the leave argument and have been rejected. Maybe they should become the party of rejoining the EU? The Libs are irrelevant and there are still many people who would want to rejoin. Other than that I think they are f22ked. Corbyn’s style was rejected. starmer’s style is being rejected. As I said recently, they need to know who they are and what they stand for.
