You're right, Stainsey, but each one is an embarrassment. Particularly if this woman was snatched off the street and murdered. May be they knew each other but if not, did he use his uniform and offer her a lift home? As Ellers says, there was something in the way the Assistant Commissioner spoke and the words used that suggested this may be a shocker.
To be honest, I didn’t see the assistant commissioner speak so can’t comment.
I do agree if this fella used his uniform to facilitate murder then it would a terrible misuse of authority....but I can’t see how the force could be embarrassed.
We’ve had rapist black cab drivers, killer GP’s, *****phile celebrities and even thieving ambulance crew.....just proves that if you’re scum, you can be clever, manipulative scum in any and every walk of life.
Agree, you can apply the law of averages rule, but nevertheless, if one of those who are meant to protect the public is actually murdering citizens, there will be an outcry over recruitment, continuing appraisal of officers, psychological assessment etc. If this officer has murdered this woman, particularly if it's a stranger murder, I'd be worried if the OB weren't embarrassed.
I agree Goldie in that he could have used his badge or pretended to arrest her on something silly like breaking lockdown? Either way he could have sounded convincing. I guess the lady that has been arrested for assisting is probably a wife/girlfriend. The whole thing is Very sad.

I'm sure the GMC was embarrassed by Shipman. But there's a difference. Doctors aren't monitored on a daily basis by their regulatory authority. Coppers are. They have to be in the job they do, enforcing the law. They have body cameras. They work with fellow officers who will evaluate them. There must be psychometric testing to weed out psychopaths in the police. There will be questions. If the AC had stood on the steps of Scotland Yard and said - oh, well, we're bound to have a few murderous psychopaths in our midst, how much succour would that be to the public?
They would run a mile because they said 3 things that were not correct and he would ask the simple question to Meghan ‘why do you have a history of ditching friends once they are no longer useful?’

While we might be correct and this guy might be a psychopath, praying on innocent victims in the dead of night......we don’t know the full story yet so is a bit early for us to surmise.

Im no expert, far from it, but I do have an interest in “True Crime” and have read many stories of cases, both famous and not so famous.
One thing I will say is that cases of someone being snatched off the street and murdered by a complete stranger is very rare and in most cases there is a link between the victim and the murderer. Of course that’s not to say this isn’t the case here, but if it was, that for me would make it even more shocking.
My theory is, and I was talking to a German lad I was crewed up with last week about the same, (when talking of well educated people of his nation committing atrocities during the Nazi regime) that we are ALL capable of murder and horrible things....it’s in us and circumstances dictate that we never, hopefully, have the opportunity to do anything....but it’s still within our capability.
