With utmost respect, starting an AS level in politics doesn't make you politically aware. Tracey and Stacey may only know whether they like reading the Sun or the Mirror but once they have a bit of life experience, they develop views on what would be good for their lives and those they love and those categories of people they do or don't care about. Most 16 year olds would ask the mum or dad how to vote
You see that’s where you fall flat on your face. Why should some thick uneducated person who works hard not have the equal right to vote over someone else? I know that’s the way you would like things but you need to look at history. Many well educated people Have F22ked things up.
16 year olds have had the right to vote up here for several years, so nothing new. More worrying is the collapse of any form of opposition, with Labours leader quitting yesterday, Davidson is interim leader of the Tories ahead of standing down at this election, and the Lib Dem an absolute wet flannel. SNP will steam roller this in May (if Covid doesn't put a temporary hold in place) and it won't be anything to do with their policies, it'll be because there's actually nobody better than them.
Bit condescending. Maybe the right to vote would engage them. Maybe having a Brexit they had no say on has engaged many. No doubt some wouldn’t bother but then the majority of people in this country would struggle to name half a dozen of the Cabinet.
I’m the one arguing for more people to be allowed to vote. I’d also like votes to actually count equally rather than elections being won or lost on a small number of swing seats given I’m surrounded by gammon here.
This isn't America. We already have a Trump mini-me as PM, I'd rather we didn't go the whole hog and follow them down the road of flag-waving Nationalism.
Labour's Scottish leader appointed by Corbyn was incredibly low key. I'd never heard of him anyway. May be they'll come up with a better prospect under Starmer. The Tories will struggle to get anyone as good as Davidson.
You better tell your mate Biden that. Talking of flags Emperor Macron was criticised for not having a French flag up but many EU ones. A flag is a flag.
Where did I misquote you? I am referring to well educated people making a tw2t of themselves. Watford I know you. I know you are a bright person. Your political compass is just a bit messed up. When you are my age I bet your whole political outlook will be different. Goldie was spot on with age/experience. That’s not being patronising as many young political analysts get me thinking all the time.
Douglas Ross is to be the new Tory leader - not sure if he has to give up his Westminster seat, but can't imagine he'll be anywhere near as domineering as Davidson.
