Whilst the murder ( ‘cos that’s what it was) of George Floyd was appalling, it always irks me that these sort of incidents are followed by widespread destruction and looting.
Attack the police if you must, burn down the Police stations and the city halls if you must......at least then the anger is being directed at those in power.
However looting ‘Footlocker’ and grabbing a new pair of trainers does the cause more harm than good.......but I guess that’s the nature of rioting...people will always take advantage for self gain.

I think it's more than just selfish greed - I think it's an attack on the establishment, the system, and societal rules. A way of saying, 'if you are going to routinely murder men and women simply because they are black, **** your rules and what you think about my actions. Playing by the rules of the establishment will deliver no justice, and peaceful protest is simply ignored.' I sort of get it to be honest, even though, like you, I don't condone the looting of businesses in response to this injustice.

I listened to an excellent podcast [link here] yesterday with David Frum, who was one of the speechwriters for GW Bush, on why he thought it was unlikely that Trump will win in November even prior to COVID. I wonder if the tone deaf response to the murder of George Floyd might have even more of an impact than COVID on his electoral prospects. I hope so.

Sorry mate, just doesn’t wash with me. Whilst I agree that peaceful protest gets you nowhere, I still can’t see how getting justice for the murder of a black man will ever be achieved by attacking, looting and burning down the business of another black man (as it seems a lot of independent businesses are owned by in the area affected), or burning someone’s car, that might be their only means of transport.
Same happened in London in 2011...the youts’ rioting to get justice for someone they had never heard of, never knew the history of......all the while bragging that they’d got a new 50 inch tv or new Xbox from Curry’s.....It just does the cause no justice at all.

As the Dead Kennedy’s sang........“Riot playing right into their hands, Tomorrow your Homeless, tonight it’s a blast“

I don't condone it, but I get where the attitude comes from, and wouldn't want to throw too many stones from my comfortable uninvolved sideline. I don't know how I would behave in that scenario, with that level of anger, however much I might hope I'd behave it certain ways.

I can only talk from experience mate.......and smashing up a Mackie D’s didn’t change the world....nor will burning down the local Walmart. I get where you’re coming from.

I think it's less to do with attacking the establishment and more to do with getting free trainers
US 12s should anyone be looting a footlocker soon
