The Poet Laureate has disappointed anti-European Union MPs by saying he will not produce a poem to mark Britain’s exit from the European Union on October 31.
Simon Armitage, who was appointed to the role in May, toldthe Telegraphhe had "no plans" to mark exit day on Oct 31, prompting Brexiteer MPs like Jacob Rees-Mogg to produce their own poems to try to inspire him.
Previous poets laureate have written poems to mark other significant national events such as the 2017 election, the MPs’ expenses scandal, the 2012 Olympic Games and even the phasing out of gas meters.
Mr Armitage said...

The EU is, in theory,
A pretty decent thing,
But this wasp has developed
A nasty little sting,
It loans out lots of money,
To countries that are broke,
Then rolls around in laughter
While watching its victim choke.
The leaders of this menace
Are appointed by their mates,
They drink and fart and sleep all day,
And rebrand opinion as hate.
They'll let you in, quite happily,
As long as you pay the fee,
But once you're in, you cannot leave,
The union of E.

Replying to @Jacob_Rees_Mogg
There was some Laureate bard
, Said a poem about Brexit "too hard"
When challenged to cheer,
Replied: "I aint no Shakespeare,
Now I'm playing my last Remain card"!
Replying to said poet,
Although could not be heard,
'In the beginning it was fine,
But, now, unlike fine wine, blow the dust and you'll just find a turd'

I learned today that Harry and Meghan have been flying around on Elton John's private plane. The good news is that as Harry has a passion for fighting climate change and, knowing this, Elton John paid extra to render their numerous flights carbon neutral.

The BBC inform us that the money is invested in various environmental projects, such as planting trees and building solar panels, thus reducing the CO2 created by the royals to an equivalent zero, like it never happened.

This is good news for everyone, because once we've learned to stop burning natural resources to create once only use plastic, wrapping everything you might ever need in it, then throwing it in the sea, we can simply use money, a concept, to nullify the record, never before seen, levels of CO2 in the atmosphere.

So we're not doomed, we have the knowledge and the know how, all we need is money. I'm willing to buy a tree and plant it, maybe everyone could do the same, I'll go one further and say I'll buy another 2 on behalf of 2 other families who can't spare the money, but only on the basis that my 2 extra purchases are proportionately matched by those wealthier than me, particularly rich companies and powerful, wealthy institutions.

To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint™.

Translation: ‘Harry and Meghan are not climate change hypocrites for using lots of private jets. We are all considerably richer than you, which means we can buy off the environment, unlike you lot who should all just fly a lot less.

More than half of the arrests were made in the Berlin districts of Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg and Mitte, mostly during demonstrations.
A third of them were unemployed, and 92 per cent still live with their parents.
The figures published in the Berlin newspaper said of the offences committed against a person, in four out of five cases the victims were police officers.
In 15 per cent of these cases, the victims were right wing activists.
The new figures were released by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV).
Between 2009 and 2013, the Bild report claims, left-wing assassins attempted to commit 11 murders.
