I refer you to my post [HASHTAG]#113[/HASHTAG] on this thread. That figure is wrong. It's more like £19m a day. We'll be paying at least that to buy our way into a trade agreement.

If that is your main criteria for voting out at least make the decision on the basis of facts rather than propaganda.

That's because it's weighted on economic performance, which Georgie tells us is of galactic leading proportions thanks to the cheap migrant labour, and still less than 50% of the figure that gives us the £55m a day or £20bn a year bullshit.

I have many reasons to want to leave the EU.

Lets focus on the one you seem to be scaremongering about on this thread, trade. The UK runs a trade DEFICIT of £60 billion with the EU, compared to a SURPLUS of £22 billion with the ROW. We wont be paying for a trade agreement with the EU if anything it will be the other way around.

Why do you think we import so much more than we export? It's because we want and need their stuff more than they want or need ours.

I calculate the net figure it's costing us per day to be in the EU based on the Telegraph figures is £28.4 million. That's a lot of money to be saved.

Next time you buy a new car and visit a few dealerships with cash hanging out of your back pocket, ask yourself how keen those garages are to sell to you...

So the UK pays more than £55 million per day for the privilege of buying BMW's and Mercedes and Volvos, French wines and cheese. I don't think so. And I don't think the EU will be looking for a trade war either

I don't think the EU will be looking for a trade war either but if they do go that way, the EU economy is far bigger than the UK economy and I would suggest you guys have far more to lose than the other 26 countries put together.

A lot of those 26 don't sell us anything. Realistically we're talking about Germany mostly. If the German automobile manufacturers find there are tariffs on their cars exporting to one of their most important markets, they'll be camped out on Mrs Merkel's doorstep

Not only the Germans. The Netherlands, France and Ireland all have considerable exports to the UK and their exporters wouldn't be happy if you left. I would suggest all the British exporters equally wouldn't be too happy if you voted to leave as well

Your government are advocating a stay vote for a reason, ie. they think overall it is in your best interests to stay. They have all the facts on trade to hand. If you guys go against what your government recommend, you are putting your economic prosperity as risk. The potential damage to the UK economy is far greater than the potential damage to the overall EU economy.

So we can spend it on the subsidies uk agriculture, regions and companies get from the EU. As I said above, that has the 'devil you know' advantage of someone in Westminster allocating it.

I'll spend a long time finding a car made by a British owned company, unless I want a Morgan. Or a Caterham...oh no, they are Malaysian owned aren't they? BMW will reluctantly reduce it's ( surprisingly big) margins to offset at least some of any tariff and rely on the strength of their brand to do the rest. The Jag (Indian owned) is the only British built alternative to a 3/5 series and not all of us want Jags.

Until both sides agree on a common set of stats to argue about this is going to go around in circles. The stay camp has to stop the fear stuff, the outers have to come up with some more convincing pictures of the future. Even Jermaine Jenas, noted intellectual and public affairs analyst, said on QT last night he was unable to make a judgement based on the propaganda coming from the campaigns.

I agree with your first paragraph, Finglas. If the UK left, there would be huge efforts on all sides at damage control, and it would be in all interests that suitable alternative arrangements were put in place at the earliest time.

It's interesting that the reason Norway - which is doing really well - is not in the EU is not because of the politicians. They want to apply to join - but 75% of the public are against.

Most of the agricultural subsidies go to French farmers - The Brits and the Germans have been subsidising them heavily for years

Stan, you're trying to cloud the issue by referring to old British car companies, you naughty man. The principle is, the seller has a huge incentive to sell. Think about the problem the German car companies have had recently with VW etc over emissions. They will be desperate to keep their customers in the UK

You're making my point when you refer to British owners in cars - British made cars are what are important now and they are selling well, the owners often outside the EU as you say, Japan, India, US, Malaysia. That won't change and more British made cars will be bought in the UK if there are tariffs placed on EU cars

You absolutely misunderstand the position if you think the UK is building walls. It's knocking down the walls that the restrictive, red-tape bound EU has subjected it to, as a result of the pen-pushing bureaucrats in Brussels. We have always been a trading nation, and we will trade with the world (including the EU countries) without these restrictions

I'm yet to see the out camp offer any realistic projections life outside the EU, why we wouldn't need visas? why the rest of the eu wouldn't make life difficult for us regarding trade agreements? how we would deal with all the migrants that could flood in from France? etc etc, also what happens to the millions of EU citizens who are currently living and working in the uk? Would they be deported? How much would that cost?

Fair enough Goldy. With increased globalisation, all countries are trading nations. You are no different to anybody else. If you want to make trading with other countries more difficult for yourselves and put your economic prosperity at risk, go ahead and make the big leap.

I think it's you ****tin it Finglas, you, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain and all the Eastern European countries. Because it's all you who take more out than put in and that will always be the case. ps don't worry about us, we'll be fine, don't know about Ireland though
