I think whatever this government do there are people on here who are always going to complain.

Is this government perfect? Far from but given the catastrophic last Tory government and the Farage alternative they are the best option by a distance.

I have an EV and petrol cars and happy with both. We use each one accordingly. For the environment and climate and as technology improves it just makes sense to move to electrical.
But do you have an allotment marra?
What do you think they spend the fuel duty on? Green energy :emoticon-0102-bigsm This isnt fairness, it is an oh **** moment. They will be taxing your allotment produce next mate <laugh><laugh> Not fair you can grow your own, blah blah blah
How'd you know that <laugh> <laugh>

It's all kicking off in Consett. Lib Dem councillor has been told she cannot lay the wreath at the Remembrance Service as a Reform councillor from another area is doing it.

I’m a councillor in Durham and I’ve been told today I’m not allowed to lay the wreath in my ward on Sunday at the remembrance service, a reform councillor from a different ward will be laying it in my ward, I can’t lay the official Durham council one I’ve to source my own if I want to lay one.
The council wreath is currently in my possession and wonder will they be wrestling it off me at the service ?
Appalling I’ve heard similar tales in Northumberland about reform councillors taking credit for stuff that was all set up before the Johnny come lately reformers came in.

Hope the liberal lass sticks to her guns

A government spokesperson told the BBC: "Fuel duty covers petrol and diesel, but there's no equivalent for electric vehicles. We want a fairer system for all drivers."

What bit about fairer do you not like?
Well it would be fairer if they charged ev drivers X amount for tax and take the same amount off petrol and Diesel drivers, now that would be fair.
But fair in Labours eyes is taxing EV drivers and keeping it all.
Which do you think is fair?

So your friends son is milking the system? What other stories has he corrupted your mind with? I would be wary of this person as a friend. Did this milking happen in the last year and four months under the Labour government? How are you managing to blame Starmer here?
I'm blaming the whole system and it happened 2 months ago and wtf are you talking about corrupted my mind.

You can’t really call people biased can you when you’re reading Reform briefings. Today’s briefings are ‘start the narrative young people have too much money cos they won’t vote as much anyway’
Comrade you do talk

I thought this was a Starmer thread

Seriously mate. The system has been getting milked for decades. I know a few people myself, in their fifties who have virtually never worked.

They do not do badly either in some cases. Two of the few I know have mobility cars, though there is no disability to be seen. And a foreign holiday is by no means beyond them.

Why work? Why push yourself? Why get extra education and qualifications, at night, after work? Why work long hours, or take on big responsibility, or work away, or abroad?

I've done all those things and I'm better off for it. But you can often have a reasonable life without bothering.

Until someone says that in public, it will continue to get worse

Lucy Powell now saying Labour should stick to their manifesto and not break promises.

This is why she was the correct choice for Deputy Leader but a nightmare for Starmer, she's not afraid to challenge on important issues. A party needs someone like that.
I thought this would happen as soon as she was elected.

Something that bugs me even more is when a married couple are stinking rich ( multi millionaires ) and one takes ill and claims a new car on mobility.
I know the wife is ill and I wouldn’t wish her condition on anyone but they could buy 10 cars and not miss the money.

I didn't even know you could do that! I presumed, (!!) that it was somehow means tested.

Powell is playing to the gallery.

Reeves is not making the decisions now, the bond markets are making them. She has absolutely no choice but to raise taxes, as Labour cannot even contemplate reducing spending at all. Debt is debt, and must be secured and serviced. At one point, you have to do what the bloke lending you the money tells you to do. That is where we are now.

Reeves' first budget was meant to demonstrate some sort of fiscal continence, but the money raised, (almost £30bn in prospect but, as with almost all tax increases will be a less), was all blasted away within a few weeks. Cue many jitters in the markets and rises to record levels in many critical gilt yields.

The UK is way over budget. Spending has to be cut. The state has to be reduced. It is as simple as that really and sooner or later it will happen anyway, as it did in the seventies.

As for Powell, she is just letting off hot air to appeal to the party faithful. Reeves has no choice now, and I really mean no choice.
