The tories wrecked the economy and won't get any where near being re-elected. Reform will waffle alot, but their figures won't add up. Labour have another year to turn things around. Hopefully more trade agreements can be reached to help our economy.
Reform propose an interesting policy on limiting interest bank of england pay to commercial banks. As usual economist disagree on whether this would be good or bad. Interesting other countries have done something similar recently. Moderate forecasts suggest a £10bn pa saving could be had without being aggressive. Savings like this need to be explored imo.

On a personal level I dont mind paying more tax. I simply dont trust Labour to spend it well. Sadly you cant juat keep pouring money into the NHS, for example, without significant reform. It, and other public services, were designed for different population needs. Nobody wants to say it but we need to rethink our needs in 2025-2055 and rebaseline.

It is not as simple as that.

By far the biggest problem the UK economy has is the debt. By far.

By far the biggest element of that debt incurred in recent years is the Covid debt. And then the energy subsidies. £1/2 Trn.

This is not " the Tories wrecking the economy". They were poor enough mind, with too much spending and not enough control. But even they had inflation at 2%+ and growth over five months.

And remember this. That Covid spending was not only welcomed by Starmer and Reeves, they wanted much more, and demanded more on many occasions. Ask yourself why they never mention this, and where we would be if they had been calling those shots then.

Spending has to be cut. No other way out. But they will raise taxes instead then that will stifle spending. A recession is definitely on its way. Then they will have to raise taxes again. It never, never, ever works.

They don't know what they are doing, and are finding that being in government is different to changing slogans.

Agree on the first sentence but not the 2nd. The 10 year plan is the other good policy. They’ve found pockets of good practice and made it policy. I think those reforms will make efficiencies but without losing quality. But it will take time. It’s why I hope Labour launch the wooden man and his puppet master. Consistency combined with good policy is worth longevity, but they need to be led well.

tories will be back in power in some form in the next election, that kemi badenoch has something about her and with starmer and reeves getting more and more unpopular they will turn to her in desperation

My money is on a Tory/Reform coalition which I think could work.

Starmer and Reeves are unpopular because they have one hell of a mess to clear up after 14 years of incompetent and corrupt Tory rule.

if Badenoch is the answer the country is truly fookd.

Yes and we now have 1 politician who wants to dismantle it.
You keep coming up with the dismantling of the NHS. If it is so good why is there only one other country in the world with a similar system, Britain has always been centre to right of centre, plenty of left wing govs yet not one implemented an NHS, serious question. Every other country seems happy not to have an NHS.

I am sick of hearing this word austerity, why not just say it real meaning A politician that is a coward and had no clue what to do. The CS need massive prod improvements, yes job losses, not just the bottom of the food chain jobs which are the ones needed, a cull of mid layer jobs required.
I have seen a few articles this year on the military,
UK and Israels military about same size, Israel procurement dept 400 people, UK 10000.
The chief of staff had a zoom call to discuss getting to 5% gov spend, complained about the amount of people on call not required asking questions that they would know the answer to if part of their job meaning loads of time wasted answering them.
The chief of the navy complaining about amount of time to get problems fixed, saying the nuclear det subs now doing 6 months tours instead of three because of the paperwork to fix simple repairs on subs in dry dock.
Will be plenty of similar issues throughout the CS. Remember the joke how many Civil servants does it take to change a light bulb

1 to change it and 9 to make sure he does it right

Look who backs Farage, self interested non dom billionaires who wouldn’t piss on you or me if we were on fire. Of course they don’t want a fair universal health service where you get treatment whatever your bank balance. Look at the cuts he reform are proposing it would decimate the nhs and vital public services. Though they are flapping around like a fish out of water when some commentators are now highlighting what these massive cuts would actually mean in practice. Anyone can be a protest politician spouting nonsense and in Farage you have the Governor.

Farage has made racism acceptable for many and it appears getting rid of our wonderful nhs too. Sadly for many of those who will vote for him, particularly on low income, they are turkeys voting for Christmas. Some need to be very careful what they wish for.

Why would cut decimate the nhs , just lies spouted by the left unions to protect the well paid middle management who in reality don't have a job to do or not up to the task
I take it a lot of labour backers are not millionaire like the one buying dresses for starmers wife or is he just having an affair with her

So, IF I understand your point, you are looking for a Politician to take on, and beat, The Sir Humphrey Apppleby Brigade?

The examples you quote, The Military Procurement, is so apt that it is a Comedy Series on ot its own.
It would be interesting to find when the last large Contract to come out within the original budget.
Has such a thing EVER occured.
Given the number of times the so called system has been reformed, it is not unreasonable to expect that 'THEY' might have got the hang of how to do it by now.

The whole fiasco echo's just why Government and The Civil Service should not be left in charge of such things.
Put bluntly, they are incapable of doing the job.
Sadly, saying that is the easy bit.
Sugesting an alternative system is the hard part, and like so many 'armchair critics', I'm ok at spotting the problem, but not so good on the second problem - coming up with a realistic solution.
