All this talk about should he go? Should he stay? has had me thinking. In my time as a Sunderland supporter we have had some great managers in amongst the dross. I'll name a few - probably missing out some - but what I'm trying to say is; "is it SAFC that is jinxed and not the people we have managed the team?" Bob Stokoe was a gentleman and a legend. Took us from almost rock bottom to cup winners and 2nd division champions. Jimmy Adamson should have done better. I would have liked Alan Durban to have more time. Wilkinson/ Steve Cotterill had all the qualifications. Laurie McMenemy ticked all the boxes. I would love to see what Peter Reid would have done with this opportunity. What I'm saying is, I think we have had the opportunity with some good people and never done owt. Have we a curse over us? I think in my heart of hearts Bruce is failing, but can anyone lead us to the promised land of (not too ambitious) top 10 finishes and cup runs? What is our problem? Why cant we make that step up?

It's not a poisoned chalice, IMO. The step up to established top 10 PL team is a bloody enormous one. To be an ESTABLISHED top 10 PL team, we basically can be no less than one of the best teams in europe. In reality, it may take hundreds of millions of pounds to make that step up. The manager and players have to be top, top class.
