I think it was the disruption to the team more than anything. Season before we had Aurelio-Riera down the left giving us good balance. Alonso-Masch in the middle controlling games and Arbeloa at rightt back who was reliable. Aurelio was injured most of next season (surprise) & Insua was just a young lad. Riera argued with Rafa which left us with Beayoun/Babel (no defensive tracking back). Johnson left more gaps as more attacking leaving Carragher exposed & Torres/Gerrard suffered from having to start deeper as Lucas/Masch not got Alonso passing range.
