Happy with that win. Holy - One dodgy moment aside he actually looks like an upgrade on our previous 'keepers. He moves about his area well and takes charge of the situations you would expect him to. Good kicking and comfortable with the ball at his feet Kenlock - not very good, slow to react to things and often not in the right position Wilson - did what he needed to, didn't really stand out but didn't do much wrong either Woolfenden - solid at the back, good game Donacien - some rough moments early on but made some good tackles and looked better as the game wore on Garbutt - did ok down the left Skuse - did as Skuse does, decent game Downes - great contribution today, kept the ball well, moved the ball well, closed down well Rowe - good game from Danny. Direct, good running and good passing Jackson - poor today. Didn't get enough distance between him and his defender to receive balls and poor first touch more often than not Norwood - did well today, just the type of striker you need at this level. Put himself about, got in defenders faces and ran after every ball with intent. I didn't realise he was such a big unit, he's a stocky lad! Judge - didn't really make too much happen but you can see his quality Huws - great to see him back on the pitch, looked class El Mizouni - looks big enough to play this level, did pretty good after coming on The game itself was ok but it wasn't a huge statement to the rest of the division. We'll get better
Relieved to get the win, Burton are no pushovers in this division. Especially with that patched up back line and the spate of injuries we’ve suffered. I know it’s early days, but Sunderland, Portsmouth, and Peterborough all dropping points makes the weekend that bit better. Also good to hear Kenlock, Downes, and Woolfenden all had good games; if our young players can step up this season, then we are surely going to be competing for those top six spots.
A good performance all round and a thoroughly deserved win, Norwood looks a brute who can actually play, he's fast , can hold up and pass, and good in the air, he looks to be a good signing. Lambert needs to have a serious word with Holy, he made 2 terrible punches when it was easier to catch the ball and played us into trouble, then he dwelt far too long on a backpass and his rushed clearance ricocheted off an opposition forward who closed him down, fortunately for us the ball rolled the wrong side of the post. Great away support right the way through and I actually got to see Evans close up for the first time ever, he also came in for some abuse quite rightly from the packed away end, all in all a very satisfactory start,
Big win yesterday, given the players we have missing, the lack of transfer activity and how poor a run of form we've been on this was a massive result and credit to Lambert and the players, many of whom have little experience at this level let alone above.
I come in peace, Good result for you lads yesterday away at Burton. The first game down here, especially away is always a tough one for the new boys, so well done. Next week is the real toughie at home but will be good to see you taking points off one another either way. Life long Gills fan.
