I'm sure we tried to sign Steve Claridge at one point (during his Cambridge/Luton days), he would have been an excellent signing, as we lacked a reliable goal scorer (apart from 1 glorious season of David Whyte) before we signed Super Clive.
Iirc claridge signed and a press conference was arranged. Then he had an argument with Steve gritt, rumours of punches being thrown, and the contract was ripped up and back to Cambridge he went. Goss also signed and never came. Remember we signed Chris makin from wall the day before we played them, only for him to fail the medical after we announced it.
Not sure if its been mentioned, or in JA's post which i dont see, but watching Stoke tonight reminded me that Riccardo Fuller was on trial with us with a view to a perm signing - not sure what happened.
Didn't we have him when he was under a world wide ban? I think they just decided he wasn't up to premiership football!
