We tried with Secondary schools, didn't really stick as nobody had the time (working etc). We're lucky in that we have a few teachers playing and that we're very much a family club (lots of father and sons, sisters, brothers etc). The juniors section of the club has just been revived in the last few years, for a long time it was rather ignored for some reason. So we've got a alot of youngsters coming through and some have started playing Saturdays, but they're obviously in the lowest teams atm, and the others are too young as they put age restrictions on when they can play, Boys have to be 14 and Girls 13.
Long time before it'll benefit the top 2 teams, if we don't lose them to the bigger clubs like we have with some others.

Although it has massively benefited the ladies 3s.

Yeah..same problems then...tbf to IHA that's why they hold various summer tournaments like the sixes...outside of other sports timetable at that age.

It pissed me off tbh. I knew the principals of our two PS. Organised the old "cross community" thing so the PE teachers got paid after hours. We had including me 5 players with junior coaching and child protection...and first aid. I kept insisting that Primary was the target because by the time they got to Secondary you'd lost them to Football etc. I understood it would seem fruitless for 4 years but then if you got one or two a year afterwards then you're set...also like the grammars that were then known for hockey, it would then be seen as "hockey schools" . You could link up with a hockey playing secondary etc etc..

Ah well, we paid for it in the end..as you say..our club relied on father to son...then got a dry patch that way and pfffft gone.

Lol...I found all my sticks this summer in a shed clear out...later went with Grays but still say my best stick was my cheap second stick..a neon slazenger!
Well, Georgie Twigg is using the one I use. Grays GX7000. Although mine has the Jumbow, basically its like a banana. Used to be a Wasp man, but they seem to have stopped making the top level sticks.

i played hockey at school and was 1st XI captain, also played for 2nds in a local league team

think i had a grays stick at one point, remember i had a dita one and a tk one as well, adidas astros and had personalised shirts for both teams uniforms

haven't played for time, it might actually work out cheaper p/a to ditch my tennis membership join a league hockey team and sign up for a cheaper gym in town to workout, i was pretty good at hockey really just fell out with it an drifted away

Exactly commentator...too much caution when GB win the ball and go forward...plenty of time tbf but play the way they did in 4th quarter of last game...

Should go back to it. Men's numbers are very low atm, sure your local club would welcome you.

If your knees still work go for it! Loved the game. Don't know how old you are or how long ago you played but I think the game would pass me by fitness wise these days...but if you're fit...why not?

Seeing it on telly and discussed on here makes me miss it a bit, playing in a team an all that

I ran a 5k at 4m/km pace earlier this week so fitness is good and i do weights ... thing that's stopping me is laying out for kit, i put a lot of investment into tennis gear and hockey stuff is expensive, would need a modern stick and astros mostly, can just wear any old shorts and top etc and sure a team has spare uniform

Feck it..buy some cheap stuff until you are sure you're there to stay. It's what I've done with golf...Wasn't spending 300 a club to ruin them. Slowly upgrading all the gear as I get better.

Stick and astros, clubs tend to have team kits these days.

Can get some really good deals on sticks and astros through the internet, look at Barringtons, any stick between £50-100 is good and will last 3-4 seasons and IMO adidas are making the best hockey astros these days (although don't buy there sticks, ****). Biggest out lay will probably club membership and match fees.
