Murray and Robson beat the Germans to get to the final - marvellous. Very proud to be British, great Olympics
You make it sounds like you bought her in John lewis Congratulations Ron - hope that she and the family are well.

Had a mega morning in the stadium. Saw Jess Ennis in the long jump - had a seat above the long jump pit and in front of the pole vault. The atmosphere was something else. I can honestly say I have never experienced anything like it before. The little square things in front of every seat were used in the opening ceremony and are light boxes. They are all wired up (thousands of meters of wiring) and were controlled by some whizz kid in a wee booth somethere.
What a day and what an evening. Never ever thought I'd ever see a day like this for the UK. Wow! Words fail me; there are just too many people involved who deserve the highest praise, not just the incredible athletes, so best left to the scribes. (To come back down to earth with a thump, we lost a penalty shoot-out. Well, disappointing of course but no sweat, we have vast experience with this sort of thing). ...........and a big thank-you yet again to OddDog for letting me know about the Filmon streaming service some time ago. Oddy will tell you that you would be flabbergasted with what the main German channels ARD and ZDF do not show you. They can be really churlish sometimes, and, I might add, they are not liking all this one little bit. With Filmon have not missed a thing; can even watch the Ladies Beach Volleyball if I want to. Night all!
Maybe they had too many English players in the footie squad - we all know how good they are at losing penalty shoot outs Lots of gold medals today
I'm the first to slag off my country because I think there are an awful lot of problems with it and problems with all sorts of stuff. But the Olympics has been everything great about Britain. Not afraid of its traditions, and some athletes so remarkably proud to wear the colours. Even mentioning the footballers galls me but I just wanted to say how utterly pathetic our Olympians have made them look. Quite phenomenal day to be British. It shows what hard work and belief can do, and also what a magnificent nation we are, for the most part. Humbled.
Janabelle13: Great comments! My sincere congratulations to you and all of your fellow volunteers; you are quite obviously doing a terrific job. Any perks that go with the work you all are doing are thoroughly deserved! . TopClass: Well said, too!
Good early morning! Have just woken-up and have had to check to see if I hadn't been dreaming. No, I hadn't! A few asides before I go back to bed, isn't even 6 a.m. yet. Expect Germany to bust their respective backsides to try and bridge the gold medal gap a bit over the coming week. As I said, they are smarting. Two disciplines they are particularly good at are, of course, the Field events (anything where you have to chuck something) and Canoe Racing. I have always found the latter to be a strange thing for them be outstanding at, but good they are. Augsburg, close to Munich, is the centre of the canoe world here. Have known one or two guys in my time here who are keen canoeists, in fact they are absolutely crackers about the sport, and would hightail it to Augsburg just about every free moment to train and/or compete. It is to me a Wild West/Canadian sport, and I wondered if it all stems from the Western novels of one Karl May (there is hardly a German alive who has not read at least ten of his books when young, know my missus has read the lot of them). It would be a continuing disaster (e.g. Swimming - no medals at all - unbelievable) for Deutschland if they fail to produce in these two disciplines. Back to slumberland!
watching the marathon and thoroughly enjoying the history lesson Brendan is giving us. But is he about to fall into his normal trap. Spends the pre-race and half of the race telling us who's going to win. Then spends the next bit telling us why they are not. It's happened so many times. Give us a commentary B, you're good at that. HK TV is showing the quarter finals of the table tennis.
