Couldn't give a flying **** about the Olympics because NI won't get any of the benefits from it. As for the 9 billion spent on it, what a joke. Nurses, teachers etc are losing their jobs and hospitals are being scaled back or closing and the country is spending that kind of money on something that lasts a few weeks and I highly doubt that the tourism benefits come anywhere near recouping the money.

I think it's great the the Olympics is in this country! I've got tickets to hockey, volleyball and football!

For people who say it's just a waste of money, I think that that's such a boring attitude to have (no offense)! I think it's great for the country to unite for a few weeks to get behind our athletes and the feel good factor alone is worth plenty. It's just nice to have something to celebrate, similarly to the Royal Wedding. Not to mention the massive increase in tourism will be beneficial for the entire economy and it's great that our athletes can inspire people as M-People or David Bowie plays in the background! Being hosted in the UK will, I think, make the efforts of our athletes even more inspiring.

complete waste of money, that **** Coe will be making plenty though.

Massive increase in tourism = massive increase in illegal immigrants

Well if you have such a boring attitude that you can't stand an occasional event for the country to unite, celebrate and experience a bit of patriotism then fair enough.

I'd rather spend 9billion on improving the economy. There is no way we will make a profit from this. If i'm correct, then we'll be the first nation never to break even from the olympics, let alone make a profit.

We don't deserve it. Other countries that were fighting over it had better bids from what i saw, plus some already had the infrastructure neede to hold the olympics. We've had to build it all from scratch.

Yes, and it's made Stratford habitable!

Well, for a couple of years at least!

Nah, we certainly earned these ones...

That's a good thing is it? We had arguably the best technical bid, it really wouldn't have cost that much to stage in comparison with what other countries (most obviously Russia) needed to do and we would have made billions in revenue from that.

And for everyone who says the money would have been better spent on improving the economy - at the time the bid was put in the economy was doing fine.
