It'd randomly beleived red bull are now the best engine.
It's also fairly obvious ferrari are the very best through the corners.

Do they? 75% of their PUs didn't go the distance, one caught fire and one looked suddenly locked it's rears and died. Fuel pump my arse, seems an easy way to blame a 3rd party, the Horner way.
No idea but they were rated as faster on the straight, whether that was less drag for ferrari or engine we will see.
The fuel issue is a known one with standard parts so we will only find out if its the fuel over heating or the pump failing or some.other part this weekend.
The fire was fuel pump leak. Verstappens was fule pump and perez was losing power for similar. The seize up was interesting though.
I can't say that it's not tonblame as there's no evidence it is not given its a known issue teams were warned on. I'd rather blame red bull for being stupid enough not to pay attention.
Ferrari had the exact same issue in testing and resolved I had read.
3 cars having the same problem, but having vastly different retirements, none of which looked anything like a car running out of fuel.
Seems like a scapegoating to me, but I'm a suspicious bastard who rarely believes a word he's told.
I had RBR down as favs for this but looking at a few discussions across the web, people said Ferrari had way more wing in Bahrain so could have more room to slim down for Saudi. Not sure how true and haven’t had chance to analyse the GP from Sunday yet.
Hope Carlos can get his first win soon. Some more interesting comparisons to come up here at a very high speed track.
Half fancy Alpine to have a good weekend here - Pat Fry made McLaren nice and streamlined when he rescued them from their 2018 drubbing and early signs were Alpine looking okay in speed traps.
Doubt they’ll trouble the front two but they might be able to give Merc something to think about assuming Merc haven’t yet cracked their PU issues.

Read a theory that it was down to an oil pressure issue, and the possibility that they were running low on oil. Which then opens the question, are they burning oil? Will have to see if I can find it again.

Yup, standard components. Odd how they both suffered similar problems so close.
Yeah. The fuel.getting hot or whatever, there is some talk of several teams seeing the issue in test but this was 55 laps of racing etc and who knows.
It's clear though the Honda cars didn't fix it.

Seen a theory that the fuel pump issue was due to "cavitation".
Basically as the fuel level drops and fuel gets sloshed around, it heats up a bit and some is in the vapour phase. The liquid and vapour fuel get mixed as the fuel moves around, essentially creating bubbles in the fuel.
When the fuel level gets low, this gets exacerbated, and there's a risk the fuel pump sucks up vapour and no liquid, which can cause issues for the pump.
Supposedly these issues are worse this year due to the new E10 fuel mix with bioethanol in it. Most teams picked up on this in preseason testing and made appropriate changes.
Red Bull (and maybe Alpha Tauri?) never ran a race distance with race-realistic fuel usage, so didn't have a hot fuel tank run to nearly empty. So never experienced the issue.
Given everyone else who observed it in testing dealt with it, I presume it's not a complex fix. But equally in testing, you could just avoid the issue by never running long to low fuel - not so avoidable in a race.
Will be interesting to see if they can produce a replacement fuel tank/pump inlet, whatever is needed, within a week and get it to Saudi Arabia.

What I hate about this weekend is I always second guess if they've accounted for day light savings in the Sunday start times!! XD

there's 3 pumps i heard with increasing pressures. It would explain vibrations and then starving engine
Basically red bull messed up but it was a known issue that they should have dealt with as it was widely known about.
Its not a change of pump though, they cannot as its a standard part for cost. I'm sure its very simple.
According to my online tv guide that jumps from 00:59 to 02:00 the 18:00 start time is BST.
Vettel has yet to return a negative covid test , so is a doubt for the race at the moment .
