Defenders rarely get the recognition is those awards, which isn't fair as you say Think only Cannavaro has won the Balon'dor or FIFA WP gong in recent memory. Like commanding bigger transfer fees, fowards hoover em up, whilst having good Defenders wins you stuff!! I'd expect Utd to win nowt this season for that exact reason.

This is missing the point. I wouldn't swap sterling for van persie because sterling is on the way up and has about 5 times more productive years than van persie. However, it is entirely rational to have van persie as world class and not Sterling. Van Persie has played at 2 different clubs and has excelled at national level too. Sterling has played very well for Liverpool. That's it. He has not yet played very well at national level and has yet to replicate his form for another team. He has the potential to become world class if he keeps up.
