Was only ok. Is a big step down from the first series. That's my view though, others here - with no sense of taste or judgement - will no doubt continue to rate it
As soon as the cast was announced there was no way they were going to hit the heights of the first series but I'll give it a go.
Lol I agree completely that so far it has not matched the first season. But just sitting there comparing it to season 1 is pointless. With the exception of the shows name it is a different show to season 1. New setting, new characters, new story. You may aswell compare it to The Wire. Most shows are **** in comparison to the Wire so you would never watch anything. But on its own merits TD season 2 has been intriguing and decent enough for me to keep watching. Its still better than anything else on at the mo
Well said Bod. Not started watching it yet myself - but for it to be as good as the first one would be one serious achievement. Personally going to judge it for what it is, not what it was.
Just finished re-watching TD season 1, brilliant stuff it's like a novel put onto the screen. Still no Broadband at the moment so cannot catch up with Season 2.
Seriously, its **** like that that makes me despair of movies these days and why I spend most of my time watching TV shows and less time at the cinema. 99% of movies they pump out are utter garbage. I mean, who in the **** watched the first 2 centipedes and thought, "Ya know what, this really needs to be a trilogy". I can count the amount of great films Hollywood has produced in the last 10 years on one hand. Where as TV keeps knocking it out the park, with HBO, Showtime and AMC pumping out stuff like The Sopranos, The Wire, Walking Dead, True Detective, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, Shameless US, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones
all the writers want to do tv as well. people have realised they don't need to feed a 23 show seasn and can do 10 shows and make a much better story that a 2 hour movie. movies have reduced to set piece action flicks. I am wndering what the star wars stuff will be like i am actually wondering what would HBO have made of lord of the rings. can you imagine lord of the rings told over 5 series?
TV has certainly evolved, some of it is very dull but now and then there's a great show that captivates the audience much more than the film industry. There are still some very good films out there but you need to dig to find them. Nebraska is one that stands out for me recently.
Indeed. The only problem with TV is the budget allowance obviously isn't the same as movies, as TV doesn't make big big office returns like movies can. This is why Game of Thrones is Unique, because it has become a cultural phenomenon it has been allocated a massive budget in relative terms to most TV shows. Had I read the books before the TV show came out, I would have thought there was no way it could be reasonably adapted successfully, because TV doesn't usually get any where near the bank that movies do. Hopefully Game of Thrones will pave the way for more epic TV productions
I dunno the budget is fairly big on GoT. relatively speaking. I think if lord of the rings had not been done it had a depth and breadth of content that would allow for such a series that would absolutely cream GoT all day. GoT season one was on sky this weekend. 1000 times better than last series. There is so much in Lord of the rings that never his a screen. the lesson from GoT is buy a seires that is a) complete or the riter is a worker who will get it done. I mean mr martin has an opportunity that is actually slipping to make the biggest ever book sale if he ever gets this book out. If season 6 is filmed and aired before he does he's blown it. which current novelist would you like to see picked up? would you go past, present or future with it? There is some scope for a futuristic book series being done IMO.
Cormack McCarthy has a trilogy known as the Border Trilogy, part of it has been badly done as a film (All The Pretty Horses). If they did a TV series properly it would be outstanding.
