The greatest showman can be broken down simply. A) songs B) a few random events from a massive career and life picked randomly. C) a liberal sprinkling of moral outrage at making people of difference feel bad. D) songs. E) inter racial love.. shock. It's a child's movie with breaking down barriers and you can be anything message. It's hilarious really cos you know the acts were all poked at and laughed at as oddities not cheered as unique and loved
Its weird, cause I freely admit as I was watching it I was entertained. I did however have a problem with its history and portrayal of the era and Barnum (which is far more positive than real life). But its flashy and bright and I suppose that distracts. However as I sat and thought about the film, after it had finished, I did feel hoodwinked with how lacking in story it was. I can't understand all those who go back time and time again (some people I've heard have watched it 10+ times already). In fact I think if I watched it again (or over and over again) the less I'd like it and its only a 6-6.5 to start with, imo.
It's fast paced, simple and has singing and dancing wolverine. You are looking at a feel good movie and the ending is the sparkly big show the starting the movie promised. My 8 year old was entertained by it on that level and my wife liked it a lot based on the family angle. A winner all round then.
Was going to watch Apocalytpto last night, but when I turned Netflix on, the first thing I saw was Full Metal Jacket. That was that Also a very good documentary on gravity presented by that Arab-British physicist, Jim someone
I have been getting into the Xmas spirit by watching Hogfather, 8/10. I have never read a Terry Pratchett book, but have all the DVD's.
My daughter is a mad Terry Pratchett fan and has every book he wrote, I have never got around to reading them. Maybe I will give them a try
