The mass hysteria drives that beast that is an entity unto it's self. Football Political Correctness, a transfer of the morals we wish we had onto the players. It's a strange beast and the goal posts are constantly moving depending on the whims of those in the media.

I think the game has been changed.
Every time there is a new higher level of media disgust the penalties appear to rise in accordance with that whipped up fake or misguided disgust (or just plain focused hate). The FA will come down heavy on someone for one thing, because the outrage is there, mainly in the media, and then go to bat for someone for a similar offence. An example is biting someone and kicking someone from behind, not in a challenge but assault. The FA slammed one, rightly so, Cameron even gave his tuppence worth, the media went looking for it too to add to the hysteria, then they go and get a ban for assaulting a player reduced. Note, no media hysteria over that, had the other player done the kicking we know the media would have been in overdrive.

Media driven correctness has definitely impacted the game and there is no end of stupid brainless followers and everyone of them an expert in a subject they never thought to really examine, and let their bias obstruct their objectivity

This is a different subject, not sure why it is merged<doh>

FIFA fines for biting now exceed any fine for clubs found to be racist

To be fair to Fifa and other football associations they will increase punishment if offences are repeated.

They do so within the basic rules of the game. So many red cards in a season and you get a longer ban for example.
