Well, bookies are already paying out on Wiggo winning it in some cases <laugh>

I do think the Olympics should be about every sport though, all sports have their world championships, and then their smaller meets, though are less advertised than those of football and tennis. The Olympics should be a meet for every sport to come together and for every country to compete against each other. The next Olympics will have golf and rugby sevens. The Olympics are expanding, not reducing what they contain.

Got to be inside info because that is risky given the lack of coverage and recognition he has received for the feat.

My problem with football, tennis, golf etc being in the Olympics is that they bring little to the party except a glitz and glamour that just isn't needed. It detracts away from essence of what its about. The Olympics is meant to be the pinnacle for any sportsman. The sailors have the Americas Cup for instance but they put a gold medal right up there with that. A runner has a world championship or european championship but they all play 2nd fiddle to the games. To a tennis or certainly a football player, its just a sideshow all said and done. You don't even get the best of the best which is what the Olympics is all about. We restrict it to under 23's and teams just use it as a practice run for the future. It seems a bit disrespectful to the whole event.

I fear in the future that the poison in football could have an adverse effect on the Olympics. They are prima donnas at the end of the day however much I love football.

I think the Olympics means more to footballers and tennis players than we think. The Brazilians were in floods of tears when they lost the final, and when Honduras beat Spain up here they celebrated like they'd won the world cup. Murray also showed a fair amount of emotion when winning his gold medal. Personally I think rather than having a poor effect on the Olympics, sports like this are more likely to have a positive effect on the athletes. They go from being just footballers to Olympians.

Honduras played as if they were playing in the World Cup, Spain and Brazil played as if they expected to win just for turning up but didn't turn up.

Brazil vs Mexico on the large screen at the Monument. Cosy seats and good bar service.

Bradley Wiggins will definitely be getting my vote, what a year he has had, starting with Le Tour, and his Olympic success so soon afterwards.
I love cycling, I've followed it for many years, I've been fortunate to catch a couple of stages of the Tour, as has Goggled this year.

I've renewed an interest in sport other than football and cycling, and because of the coverage, we are given greater insight into sport these days, I now know how the scores are worked out in the diving, although I still struggle with the omnium,

Pub quiz anyone? ......................We'll be unbeatable<ok>

If they did it today, I think it would go to someone like Mo, maybe Ennis. But by the time the show comes around and people are reminded of exactly what Wiggo has achieved, I think he'll have it in the bag. Should be a hell of a show though.

Also, anyone else think Seb Coe will be up for a knighthood?

Fair enough, he's done a damn fine job still.

And haha LTF, I'll miss the Olympics in general, and this thread when it dies. Not gonna lie, the weather is no where near as interesting as the Olympics <laugh>

Anyone know where the next winter Olympics are*? <whistle>

*Ignoring the fact we'll probably not get a single medal <laugh>

I accept Murray was emotional. But the question you have to be brutally honest about is, would he have shown so much emotion if it hadn't been a home games and he hadn't just lost to the same guy at the same venue in his priority event, a tennis major? You can only look at what has been and the answer is categorically no. At the previous games he went out early and seemed completely disinterested. Indeed he admitted as much this time around saying something like "I'd never viewed it as a major tournament before".

The footballers are just young lads in the main. I think the certain countries (Honduras) have taken it seriously, but most didn't and there was a very lethargic pre season feel about the games. With Honduras, how many major tournaments do they get to play in? It was noticeable how much more full on the Welsh players were for us. I understand the players are looking at their season being just weeks away, but that is part of the point really, they weren't willing to go the full yardage because their bread and butter was just around the corner. They haven't worked for 4 years solid to get there so they are no where near what an Olympian stands for in my opinion.

I absolutely love football and I absolutely love the Olympics but they're a bad mix.
