Aargh, he shouldn't have to get better, why does he keep getting contracts? Surely other people must put bids in for the contract? Despite the slating his tracks get, really very few escape criticism, how does he keep getting them? A different company did the new Silverstone in-field, and got rave reviews for it, so why haven't they been given more? I know it's early days in that case, but surely there has to be alternatives to Tilke?
What are the rules about the teams using pirrelis outside of a race weekend, cos it seems lewis hamilton was driving the 2008 McLaren around silverstone 3 days ago with pirelli's on http://yfrog.com/oet9vyj http://twitter.com/#!/LewisHamilton I'm wondering weather it was a relaxed "media day" drive around with demo tyres or whether he was getting in some practice and going full out with the actual 4 compounds they take to the races.
Nah, they're fine to use them outside race weekends. Jenson did it when he came down here before the season started at Mt Panorama. And the 2008 McLaren is completely different to what is driven now, that's why Pirelli don't like using the '09 Toyota now.
Ahh I see, well with all his and McLarens money it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to do a few race simulations in the 2009 car with the pirrelis to better understand how to get the most out of them.
I don't really understand how the process works. Countries (or whoever bids) seem to get given a slot on the calendar before they even have a track, it should be the other way round. If a country wants a race they should build a circuit and facilities and then apply for a race.
It's going to be the second fastest track on the calendar after Monza according to Seb Vettel. I'm liking this track a bit more the more I look at it, but as has been said above, it's annoying that Tilke gets every new track design.
I sort of agree, but with the cost of building F1-grade facilities, the money needed to build a track which might not get a race would price most countries out of trying. If you don't get a GP it's a big white elephant! What I would like to see however (and I don't think it currently happens), is a panel of drivers evaluate the proposed circuit, and provide feedback so it can be improved, to avoid things like the poor pit entrance/exit at Korea, or the generally crap design to most Tilke 'creations'. Surely with the amount of cash Tilke Engineering makes from each contract, they could afford to do that themselves?
We should select say our fav 3 circuits and which sections of them. Then ask Tilke to incorporate the sections into 1 track design.
Just fished this out, this is 2010 I think Michael lost in the finals against Seb... Fantastic guys, true champions.
There are two DRS zones. The first one is on the pit straight, the second is on the long straight. Two different detection zones as well. Sounds a bit silly tbh - if someone makes an overtake on the pit straight, they have a high chance of being re-passed on the long straight.
But the thing is, before every single new race we hear the same parade of comments from drivers, team owners etc. that it's "fantastic" and that there are "definite opportunities for overtaking", forgetting that it's not overtaking but RACING that we want. I can't decide if the more recent ones are better or worse than Valencia, which I hold up as Tilke's worst.
good point tomtom. no one likes to see cars breezing past each other, cause we could do that. what f1 fans want, and what bernie doesn't seem to understand, is daring a skill making overtaking an art, something we as fans would not be able to do. DRS zones sometimes (not always) make overtaking too easy, and its always on the straights. i would love to see more overtakes into corners, cause current DRS straights either don't help the overtaker or let him straight past without the defending driver being able to defend.
A lovely link Manny, but what the **** has it got to do with the Indian GP!? And it's in German!? And he can't pronounce 'Michael' properly.
MODS - could we have a whole board dedicated to 'the German duo' and leave some space here for anything else F1.? I'm drowning in a teutonic nightmare. Will they all go away please.
