wtf was Alonso doing? - Faster in Q2 than Q3 - Alonso's best sector times show he was capable of a 1.20.048 - Ferrari's best sector times show the car was capable of a 1.19.920 - SECOND PLACE!! Furthermore, Alonso's sector 2 time was poor compared to what he'd been doing (relative to others) in Practice. Alonso shoould've taken advantage of Hamilton's mistake and qualified 2nd. Half a second off the pace is unacceptable. I don't think so. Tyre deg was high in practice and the drivers predicted 3-4 stops
But still I think Hamilton would have got pole. He had a purple first sector, a reasonable middle sector, and a purple last sector including the mistake at the last corner. So taking away the mistake at Turn 9 and 14, he would have got pole.
Yeah I agree. Hamilton should have taken pole but he couldn't do the lap when it mattered. Today Vettel was in another league. Congratulations to him. Best driver today.
Actually Massa had the fastest first sector Alonso was the slowest out of the top 6 through there i think. His second sector was good but his last sector (thanks Webber) was slow.
Yep. Agreed. But he does have a set of new options. So if he can get a good start and keep with Vettel OR get ahead of Vettel(Leading the race) he has a chance of winning.
Dont be suprised if Massa gets into 2nd or the lead tomorrow. I think he is the best starter this year. He should get a few positions imo
So will Massa be an option for Ferrari to take out Lewis and Seb to aid Alonso? Or will he just keep out of the way from the start?
Massa won't intentionally take someone out, and he'll be very aggressive should Alonso try an overtake. Ferrari: "Fernando, you ****!"
the first corner's on the right, lewis starts on the right.i think thats the better side of the track to start from for that reason.i mean if lewis can get up the inside of vettel going into the first corner i think lewis will force vettel to back off.
Vettel will point at Hamilton off the start leaving an open door for button to try the outside line setting himself up for the 2nd corner. Could get messy.
anyone think it possible that vettel stalls at the start due to pressure of not having his teammate next to or near to him? and after all, hasn't vettel had webber next to or behind him every race he was on pole for, and since webber started badly, ppl focused on getting past him and seb cud get away. with webber in 6th he'll have to fend off both mclaren's (very good starters) and both ferrari's (insanely good starters). cud be a 5 way fight into the first corner. i predict a crash...
Last time when there were 2 mclarens behind was at China, Seb had a bad start and got on the KERS later then Jenson and Lewis. Nico nearly got him out of turn 1, but that time it was damp... Could be due for a bad start from Seb, but he doesn't do them often since he has looked mighty in previous races when the lights go. Would of got 2nd last weekend into the first corner if Webber didn't plant his car in front of Sebastian, screwing his race up by helping both Ferrari's sandwich him.
really? Webber has rarely started on the front this year, and when he does he goes for Vettel every time, not having Webber next to him is preferable for him, look at last week, Webber had eyes only to stop Vettel. on checking Hamilton has started 2nd to Vettel more times than Webber this year.
I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but it seems McLaren are doing something to their front wing: please log in to view this image They had something similar in Valencia and that was illegal.
Well Alonso rarely makes mistakes or fails to get everything out of the car so I think it is forgivable that he failed this one time. That said he is on the clean side of the grid and has been making good starts recently so I expect him to beat Massa off the line and then who knows what will happen in the race, Ferrari are easy on it's tyres so he could get past people through the pit stops.
Could be, but it's a great piece of ingenuity, having a wing that flexes at speed to open a slot would be very clever.
