Yeah, there's got to be a great chance for him at Spa, especially with the much-hyped upgrade. And with Lewis and McLaren back up there, it could be 2008 all over again.
For a rookie, Pic's doing a good job, beating his more experienced team-mate on several occasions. I assume he did the same at Hungary (we didn't see enough to find out) That's all he can do really, that's all they can judge him on.
I've got it in my head that its a boggy track for him? Edit: 5th-Ret-Ret-Ret-3rd-Ret-15th-Ret-Ret-3rd
Its true that he hasn't had a pole position from McLaren but it didn't seem to affect him in 2010 and 2011 - this year however looks worse than Hamiltons 2011
As I'm in a graphic mood, Hamilton Vs Button time difference (with Alo-Mas as a guide). It should be noted that these are the best times from the most advance session both drivers competed in together (i.e both q2 not one for q3 one from q2 etc). please log in to view this image
I quite like Pic, he's beaten Glock quite regularly, considering this is his first season there and it's Glock's 3rd. Out of the 3 drivers Virgin/Marussia have had, Pic has got to be the best and should stay for next year. Marussia/Virgin and HRT keep changing their drivers every year, it's no wonder they cant get anywhere when their driver styles they are experiencing keep changing. I'm with Rubens Barrichello in that they need to keep driver line ups the same to grow a struggling team. I think in 2011 Rubens was a bit upset that Hulkenberg was pushed out the team for Maldonad'oh.
If I recall when he was in the BAR he was running in 3rd and catching 2nd when he had a tyre failure, he was taken out on the 1st lap in 2009 and he was taken out by Vettle last year when running in 3rd - so I dont think its a bad track perfromance wise just luck wise - I hope!
It doesn't make good reading does it although there were moments like Japan last year against the superior RB that proves he has got it - sometimes. I suppose thats what happens when your up against Lewis and a Red Bull for the last 3 seasons!
I'm not defending him because his lack of quali pace is fundementally affecting his race results. I think Lewis did cross the line (he barged past Schuey who didn't make it?????) and was comfortably outpaced in the race aswell, so to indicate that the Mclaren was infact the best car over the Red Bull would be (IMO) harsh. Anyway the fact remains that Vettle, Alonso and Lewis are quicker in quali trim over Jenson and thats why he struggles - Hungary being a prime example. He had similiar pace to Lewis after the first stint on softs and was within sight and matching on the primes. He was compromised by his race position and had he been 2nd to Lewis on track with a faster 1st stint he 3 stop may have worked and certainly would nt have ruined his race like it did on Sunday.
