No doubt they are the best, yes I agree that they are not "caught", but the other teams are closer this time relative to last year .

For Fernando and Lewis they need to work together as they are the only men in my eyes who can challenge Seb for the title, need to work with each other to take points off Vettel.

Gutted. I'm really disappointed with Whiting's attitude here. I totally agree with the second DRS second being available to help the faster driver pull a gap. Having two detection zones (where the slower driver has the chance to get back past the faster driver) completely undermines the whole point of DRS. For Whiting to say the second zone is making it too easy is to completely miss the point of the second zone.

Anyway - subsequent DRS zones are under consideration:

I think double DRS is ridiculous. I see your point regarding the driver who's just been passed not being allowed to use DRS to repass, but if they can make a legitimate, unaided overtaking by getting a good run off the corner and a slipstream, they shouldn't then be punished by seeing the leading driver pull away with DRS. It should be one zone, or two completely separate zones. I don't know why they can't have one on the Wellington straight and one on the Hanger straight at Silverstone, with two separate zones.

That argument depends on your opinion of Hamilton vs. Raikkonen in Belgium 2008. If Hamilton gave the place back, isn't he then entitled to pick up the slipstream or slingshot the 'slower' driver into the next corner? If not, if he has to wait until the subsequent corner, then the same should apply to DRS and the second contiguous zone just enables that.

Also does anyone know whether they were doing Turn 1 flat out with the DRS wide open in FP??

That's a completely different situation. I agree that if a driver has just been passed, they shouldn't get DRS from the next corner to claim the place back. But if they can do it unaided they should be allowed. If a driver (lets say down the Hanger straight where it won't be used, going into Stowe) overtakes using a slipstream, the driver who's just been passed is then entitled to cut back underneath and have a go into Vale. The same should be applied if a driver has completed the original move using DRS.

In that situation there is no artificial regulation helping one driver or the other. That's totally down to two drivers duking it out with complete regulatory equivalence.

When a driver gives a place back after cutting a corner he does so because the rules say he must. When a driver activates DRS to get past the driver in front he does so because the rules say he can.

In both situations one driver has passed another as a result of an artificial allowance in the regulations.

Why then should the driver behind be allowed to slipstream into the next corner in one situation but not in the other?

lol, they couldn't do that when they were team-mates, I doubt they'll do it now they're at teams that have an almost lifelong intense dislike of each other.

Off to watch FP3. Interesting to see whether anyone can show pace to match Red Bull.

Pretty sure Alonso would work well with Kubica seeing as they are best friends.

Is it possible McLaren were always more aggressive in engine mapping in qualifying than Red Bull?

I guess we will find out soon...
