If you want to get pedantic about it it is impossible to out-perform your car, all you can do is maximise the capabilities of the car and the situation which Alonso has done twice as well as Massa this season and is the best at doing it on the grid.
Is there any proof that Massa isnt at his best? How about Raikkonen was just plain crap in comparison to Alonso at Ferrari. Massa has to be atleast half decent to come within a corner of the WDC with the current world champion in the same car. Alonso is the only driver to be able to (this season) come in positions he has no right to be in. Was first at Spain but let down by hard tyre. Nearly won at Monaco if it wasnt for the red flag, in a car much slower than the Red Bull and Mclaren at the time. Turkey, the only driver within 30 seconds of the RB. Valencia split the RB on an RB track How can you say that Canada was bad? He got taken out. The only "bad" race was China. The first time in about 20 races that Massa has beaten him on merit.
Let down by the hard tyre at Spain!!??? After the option stints were out of the way Hamilton and Vettel were long gone!! And Germany 2010 Massa beat him on merit but then Fernando had to be waved through because he couldn't pass which is no excuse because he was "faster than you(Felipe)....
But he didnt beat him though did he? Alonso was faster all weekend but Vettel nearly pished him into the wall leaving Massa to take them both.
Regarding Ferrari at Germany (In my view) they were stuck with a problem, Alonso was clearly faster than Massa but not fast enough to pull an overtake without some contact. Seb was closing them both down by, I don't know 2-3 tenths a lap, they made a call and they got away with the best result, yes it wasn't fair but this is F1. Regarding other teams using team orders, It will sound weird if Webber got team orders, having to let vettel past for the championship, not trying to troll, just think it'll sound weird after all these years with Todt saying it to Rubens. The PR guy at McLaren has had a word and now Lewis aims for a one-two. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/13953045.stm Has someone kept count of how many different opinions lewis has had this week.
Anything to keep the sponsors happy, would rather have them mute then talk for a PR plonk. Lewis could go to a gunfight with a stick and Vodafone would still ask him to convince the public that he was going to win.
So lets track this thing; first it was "Hamilton concedes title chance" along with "There is no catching Vettel", then there was "Silverstone win impossible", cue PR intervention and up comes "Hamilton backtracks on title claims" and "Hamilton plans to fight for F1 title", and then comes "Bring on Silverstone" and "Hamilton targets a British one-two at Silverstone".
1. raikonen was out partying as soon as he won his WDC, and I'm not sure if he has even stopped yet. 2. he came close, yes, but in by far the best car 3. really? he hasn't won any races, the McLarens have beaten the blatantly faster RB on 2 occasions, once from the back of the grid. 4. what race were you watching? 5. nearly won did he, that's funny cos from what I saw he wasn't passed Vettel, whose tyres were fine according to Pirelli, and was extremely fortunate to get an SC when he did to put him in an undeserved 2nd place. 6. a good race 7. I guess crashing out whilst outside of the points isn't counted as a bad race by you, and he was MILES behind massa at that point.
I do not get that Hamilton quote, is he saying that he hopes a person like him (ie. someone who wants to be a F1 driver) takes inspiration from the hypothetical Mclaren 1-2, or is he saying that he is going to either clone his DNA or travel back in time (possibly to knock off Sebastian Vettel) and see it?
Why have you closed the European GP Chat thread? You don't normally close them and there might be some late information or points someone wants to make? The rest of us should not have our chat curtailed just because one person didn't pay attention to which thread he was on.
well I can reopen if people want me too. I thought Valencia was a dead dodo and the only talking point from it has moved to how the Valencia street circuit is so boring.
I blame the owners of Silverstone making him say it... Could turn out to be a massacre, but yet 100,000 people still showed up to see it. Btw cheers el bando, was looking at that poll when I woke up half asleep wondering wtf went on?
It's just that they don't usually get closed and occasionally do get posted to some time later. Can't do that if you've closed it and you're at a gig or whatever.
I feel a win is on the cards for Red Bull on their good tracks. Hopefully Mclarens and Alonso, could mount a challenge in Quali, and then try keep ahead in the race.
