Just been watching the match on LFC TV. Now I know the result was bad but there were a few encouraging signs. We created penty of chances again. Passing was accurate in most cases and the link up play in and around their box was quick and clever. Looking at their goals, we went behind to a wonder strike and the the other 2 goals were when we were down to 10 men and chasing the game. The thing that struck me though, especially after watching the Gomel & Leverkusen game was our pressing of the ball high up the pitch was non existent. In the first half we sat back and let their defenders have it rather than trying to close them down in the first 10 seconds and if no luck then dropping off. Just one thing on the ref, and this isn't making excuses but there were the same amount of fouls in the game for each side, yet we had 4 yellows and 1 red where as West Brom had 1 yellow. Ridgewell ran into Borini when the ball wa sin the air and caught him in the cheeck with his shoulder, goal kick given, yet there was as much (if not more) contact than the Agger penalty. There were also 1 or 2 cynical fouls on Suarez which went unpunished as well. Overall, had we kept 11 players on the pitch I don't think we would have lost that game. They created very little before we went down to 10 and didn't look like opening us up and scoring 2 more. Overall, although a bad result, the first half performance was decent enough and we were unfortunate to go in 1-0 down. Second half not great, but red card and 2 pens, both of wich were 50/50 and could quite easily not be given on another day, meant the game was taken away from us.
The Ref was a joke. Let Olsson get away with murder and booked our players for the least little thing.
