he caught a few, and stopped a few basic shots any keeper would be expected to. to me flawless means imperious, amazing, awesome. just my opinion. my other opinion is our players are generally scared to death in using him and don't back pass like the do with reina and he normally hoofs it. reina is annoying me with his basic concentration based errors, but he's still 10 times the keeper jones is. and noble... wisdom is indeed a god... sterling you can see he's a kid. wisdom could be playing ten years for all you can tell... transition is simply unbelievable IMO.
Dissagree with your point on Downing. Might work with Stoke when you have Crouch/Jones/Walters in the middle but when you have Suarez hovering on the 18yard box and Sterling as the only other option near the box up against Samba and other big CB's there is no point in beating a man and crossing. The way we play we need wingers who can cut in and link up with the middle man, not stay wide and cross the ball.
Because he thrives off negativity and always tries to find any small negatives he can and exaggerate them to make them into huge problems that need sorting! He always complains about the team selection before the game and if we lose he'd be all over the thread like a rash claiming he'd told everyone that the team selection was wrong.
Stoped a few basic shots - unlike Reina who spilled a basic one v Hearts or the flap against City for Toure's goal or the one v Norwich that he palmed straight out to their forward? Definition of flawless: 1.Without any blemishes or imperfections; perfect. 2.Without any mistakes or shortcomings He made no mistakes. All I was trying to say was, Reina has been poor this season/back end of last year and Jones has come in and kept 2 clean sheets. If Suarez got injured and Yesil came in and scored 2 goals in 2 games, would you then drop him straight away for Suarez who hadn't scored in 3 games? Just throwing it out there and saying should Reina be given a place automatically, especially as we have all been saying he needs more competition. Does dropping him when he's fit show that he needs to up his game in order to get his first team place back?
suggest you 1. re-read what i wrote about sahin. where precisely did i critise his passing? a couple of tackles? I said "i'd like a bit more get up and go" simply put he's not precisely a box to box go getter is he? decent player no question but there is a reason why him, gerrard and shevely were getting over run i nthe second half and its to do with keeping the thing going... I like him but i think he can give more. 2. your opinion of gerrard is your opinion but i'm of the opinion that he simply can't keep up any more and i'll stand by that. 3. i wrote wisdom was good... how can you jump all over that, did the other comments get you knicker sin a twist.. i've been consistently and ardently giving the lad praise long before his debut. sorry i didn't fawnal over the young lad.. he was good. 4. refereeing is a debateable point. lets be fair here. you're entitle to your opinion there. the game did flow... but.... just admit one thing. i nthe prem i would say at least half to 75% of "contact points" we saw would be blown up. both sides got equal treatment... did i say he was useless? nope. just that rathe robviousl fouls that wouldbe given this saturday were being let go. 5. we had a decent rep but i think its highly fair to say that they looked nothing special, especially in midfield i nthe first hour fo the game unitl we tired (IMO) hiddink is indeed a great manager but lets be fair here. we did boss them, and it is a pity we didn't score more. if we'd won 2 or 3-0 i'd not be saying we didn't deserve it! if you felt so angry to try to pick things apart on me at least don't seem to put words in my mouth and disagree with things i either didn't say or didn't give enough praise to! about the only thing we really disagreed on was gerrard... the other things were simple observations like wanting a bit more from sahin physically and that the ref let a lot of things that are normally blown up go!
no i don't actually. i usually wait until monday before writing a review of a game... some people! i gave praise to some (ignored) and made a few points where I saw things that were off and its oh he's negative.... ............. PS gerrard on for 90 v 70 mins is with everton in mind! think about it.
its not like i don't agree with you. I do. "reina is annoying me with his basic concentration based errors" I don't think there's an equivilancy between say yesil going and actually scoring and jones who in fairness plays ok but is against reading where we dominated the game all over the pitch and yes he did the little he had to do ok, and the same tonight. its just context to me, that all we're differing over. If it was chelsea and utd we'd just played and he'd actually dominated his area, made good saves and looked like a guy you could really rely on then i'd agree wholeheartedly. however in my mind what we're talking about is like say yesil getting two 90 mins tap ins to complete 4-0 wins and saying right suarez you are out cos this guy is amazing. Reina is still no 1 to me depsite the errors that have cost us and furstrate us both i'm sure. I hope that clarifies it. jones= two clean sheets fine but not without imperfections or shortcomings... just look at the way he takes that extra touch on back passes and is closed odwn. people...reina is amazing.... that why he comes back in.
So basically you're annoyed that Sahin is disciplined in his positioning and that he should commit himself forward more despite the fact that isn't his job? We were playing with no recognised holding midfielder in a system that generally requires two, if he were to 'get up and go' more often then there'd have been gaps everywhere. But then again I suppose everyone should just run, run, run up and down the field. "he's not precisely a box to box go getter is he?" Neither is Lucas but how many times would he be criticised for that? None. And rightly so. Positioning is key in Rodger's system, and Sahin seems to understand that perfectly unlike you. And no, I don't think the refereeing of the game is debateable at all. It was a thoroughly entertaining match for a 1-0 scoreline due to the lack of stoppages for light shoulder charges or silly dives. Great to watch and it all evened out in the end. On Gerrard; wait until he retires. Then you'll realise what he's given to this team for 12 years, and still gives to the team every week. I'm not someone who likes players to be immune from criticism, and if Gerrard was ever lazy then I'd say so. But there is one thing you will always get from him and that is commitment and a fight for the cause. He doesn't score screamers then immediately make last ditch tackles because he's now 32 years of age. He is playing a very continental sort of role in the middle and I think he could go on to play for another 5 years in the starting lineup if he continues to adapt so well. Also why have you quoted yourself in your quotes. Seriously, it's not even quoteworthy. Nobody likes your 'MITO Monday morning rants' either, they just seem pessimistic and miserable. Support some other team if you want to wallow in misery all season. Also how you can say Brad Jones wasn't flawless tonight I don't know. There were no flaws in his performance, the very definition of flawless. Something that has plagued Reina's game a lot this season. I agree Pepe should be back in the lineup when fit, but don't take anything away from Jones. To go so long without playing then put two very credible, solid performances in knowing that he will continue to deputise no matter what is very admirable.
Yes, yes it is. And I'll proceed to give you an extremely detailed explanation as to why. Jokes. I just don't understand the persistant pessimism by certain members on this board.
fair enough.... don't see my way of thinking. 1. sahin, no i don't want him to just run forward, box to box doesn't mean that to me at any rate but no point in labouring it. get up and go can mean more than just running forward 2. if the refing is not debatable for you fine. i merely pointed out what i felt was fair to say baout it... you loved it so good for you. 3. on gerrard, that fair enough, i don't mind you saying that at all cos it is true he will be missed but if he's uncritisable (if such a word exists) it not a grea tthing IMO. 4. i quote my self to show what i said compared to what you interpreted i said, thats all... just showing again what i was saying. 5. nobody like... oh boo hoo... its an internet forum. i could say the same to you but didn't, i just tired to tlak about the points you made about what i said. I replied to lucas saying i didn't just jupm all over things being negative but tired when i have a bit of time to do a bit of a reivew.. if you've got to be igornat anbout it don't be shokced if i call it how i see it, ignorant. "wallow in misery?" nice one.... 6. jones.. if thats flawless fine guys but if i say context again please forgive me. It was a routine performance where he didn't have that much to do that keepers up and down the english league can and do cope with. so in his defense: 1. I'll say this its a hell of a lot better than looking shaky against the same type of oppoistion which he did do last year. rodgers has given him games and he's responded. Is that fair? he played a few games this year not like last year when called upon when when got sent off and he saved a pen then threw on in a short time later. 2 he's a nice guy. in context to the display: 1. i'm just pointing out that our players look scared to back pass and use him when comapred to reina... now i can remember say westerveld for instance where guys were petrifed of what he'd do at times and yes jones took his time and controlled the ball and got it away long but those were not aimed balls nor were they quick so we were COMPARED TO REINA (one of best in the world and who is flawless at this) at a disadvantage with him. 2. he caught a few and he saved a few that were routine saves but required concentration and yes pepe has fluffed those this year... did they have a ton of chances and did he just dominate his area, command his defenders and top lots of goals? no. so thats fine and good on him.... I'll therefore say he was not a 10/10 performer but was solid. hows that?
indeed... though i did know another crumpet from 606 so perhaps i've just been messing... you decide while i'm off!
Just got in and not got time to read the thread but will post some quick thoughts before bed: First point is I was in the lower centenary so didn't have the best view of the game...will watch it tomorrow eve for a different perspective. Jones looked ok again but rarely tested so jury is still out. Centre halfs were solid, Johnson wasn't at his best but played alright. Downing might just be useful after all (gulp), Sahin was hit and miss as was Gerrard who was involved in better positions second half but just looks restricted by the formation still. Sterling had an impact when he came on (he really does work hard and even got involved defensively a few times. Negatives for me were our complete inability to get players in the box quickly and one of the maddest things I've ever seen at Anfield was the corner with 5 minutes to go where we put not one single player in their box Shelveys shooting deserves a mention too More positives though. As I said, Downing looked ok at left back, Assaidi was really impressive second half and linked well with SD too which was quite interesting. Some great challenges and blocks from Skrts and Dagger. 3 points is a big positive from what could have been a big fat banana skin. But I save the biggest positive until last of course...and again it was Norman The lad is a beast of a player. Full back's not even his natural position yet he looks damn good there. Still need to see him up against the best quality wingers but so far so good. Another excellent display.
Good win for you fella's last night, and deserved. However, I wasn't expecting Rodgers to put the first XI out. What does that mean for the Everton game? I'm afraid, if too many of last night's side are involved for 60-90 minutes against Everton you ARE risking injury (something I wouldn't have imagined was adviseable right now)...you will almost certainly get a reduction in performance levels also. At least us Swans can be sure that we will be playing your kids on Wednesday, although I don't fancy facing that Yesil on his debut...I think he will turn out to be the real deal.
I don't doubt many will agree but I said before the game that the first team players need to get as much practice together as possible. They need to adjust to the system asap and resting players in October shouldn't be necessary anyway certainly not for a home game in Europe. Maybe one day you'll find out about that T.Wit
