First half, we could have been three or four behind. Second half we was a lot better to the point were I would argue we were the better side. I would have 100% taken a point before the game so I am certainly happy with that. To go to Stamford Bridge with the massive difference in squads and come away with 52% possession and a point is very much job done IMO However, I said before the game that if we play with three at the back, especially with Carragher in there, we would be inviting pressure and we would get battered. It wasn't until Rodgers moved Johnson to LB and pushed Enrique forward and introducing Suso for Sahin that we started to take more control. three at the back didn't work in the derby, it didn't work against Anzhi and it certainly didn't work today, we should not consider attempting it again! Now that this game is out of the way, we have a nice set of fixtures coming up (bar the Spuds) were we should be able to get some points on the board. These are games we usually struggle in but with the way our season is going and our lack of points gathering against the 'bigger clubs', we really need to make these games matter!
Yeah it would ne nice if we could get a few wins on the board and a bit of momentum. We have the following in the League: Wigan at home. Swansea away Spurs away Saints at home West Ham away Villa at home Fulham at home Stoke away QPR away. Trouble is I could not predict the amount of points. I can see us dropping points in all of them to be honest! QPR need a win (we usually provide that to struggling teams), Stoke are tough, Swansea will want to prove a point, Wigan we never beat, Spurs are tough and West Ham are riding high. God knows! 13 out of 27?! Maybe i'm too pessimistic.
Really? Mata probably should have scored at the end, and apart from that Oscar had a half chance. I can't think of any other chances they had. They had 3 shots on target all game - wouldn't class that as battering us and deserving of being 3 or 4 ahead in the whole game, let alone half time. 1-0 at half tim was a fair scoreline, and it probably could/should have ended 2-2 with Suarez scoring when he tried to round the keeper.
From those fixtures, we should expect WWLWWXWXW which equates to 20pts from a possible 27pts. However, in reality, I think we will be lucky to get 15pts
I agree. Based on this years form: Draw to Wigan Lose to Swansea Lose to Spurs Beat Southampton Draw with West Ham Beat Villa Beat Fulham Lose to Stoke Draw with QPR We could do a bit better, but it would be against whats happened so far this year.
Out of that lot, the dangerous game is the one at no hope lane. If we can get a draw and win the majority of the others, we'll be fine.
Yep, no need for **** like that. I actually see a visit to White Hart Lane in similar light to todays visit to Stamford Bridge. Both have excellent attacking players and both are a little suspect if attacked
Just come back from watching the game in the pub and read through some of this. Can't believe how many of you get on the backs of our players. It was always going to be a tough game, and we didn't play that well, but we got something out of it in the end.
I'm just glad we didn't get a spanking. Just seen Suarez celebration again, so funny the look on his face when he realises no one is with him.
I don't know how to look at that - bit unfortunate with everyone running back to get in position and push on for the winner? Or is there friction there? I'm hoping and pretty sure it's the first and just unfortunate that Suarez ran off to celebrate while the rest of the team wanted to get on with the game.
Also I didn't get why so many were on Enricky's back, he can be a ball hog but so can Suarez. IMO only Allen and Sahin had an off day, the team could have done more to create chances in the first half and we did well to defend the Chelsea bombardment.
I thought Allen was woeful tonight and the personal duel stat was pretty staggering against him, really struggled with the size and pace of Mikel and Ramires in there. Hell even Oscar was knocking him around. Really missed Lucas today I thought to really tighten that up. I think most can agree that Downing not coming on was a positive.
