If it's anything like the throat infection my wife has been fighting for almost 2 weeks now, well I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Play football? She can hardly climb the stairs where the cough has worn her out. It's not a lung related cough, but one that comes as a result of a tickle in the back of the the throat. She couldn't shift it at all for the first week. Cough medicine doesn't work, there's no antibitoics that she can take because it's a viral infection.
She's on the mend now but my God, she was in a state.

Swarbs, I'd happily accept "Virus" as an excuse because its systemic. Drains you all over. But a throat infection, you get antibiotics and keep going. Either the media are stirring (which I don't discount) or its the lamest excuse ever from United for withdrawing a player from International duty...

Mind you, Alex only has to speak with a 'caretaker' at the moment, not someone with any real clout...

Infection can be bacterial or viral. Bacterial is usually easier to treat, but only if it's strep - other bacteria can be more vicious and resistant to antibiotics. Of course knowing Rooney it's probably oral thrush...

Besides which, SAF has said, he's hoping to be back to face Norwich which is before the Dutch match. And he wasn't in line for an international call up anyway, what with being suspended for the first two group games.

you lot are all making excuses cos if this throat infection was as bad as you are making you (but personally i do sympathise with your missus feeling bad <ok>) then WHY is rooney oging to be back this weekend..

miracle medicine or is it just cos your manager made it up cos while he's played lip service he aint too bothered tonight... your first half display v ajax proved that too...

    Why does it bother you?

Really, why do you all seem to give such a **** whether he plays or not and what the reason for his playing/not playing is? Baffling.

Not quite as baffling as the towie thing though sweats, I've never seen a single second but the orange brainless ****s still seem to have permeated into my life. How these utter halfwits become TV 'stars' is completely beyond my comprehension.

ruff why be baffled..i'm merely bored and pointing out that saying rooney is that badly off doesn't marry up with him being fit on the weekend and seeing its the banter thread i wanted to start some banter.

It's not just you though, one or two (and I did just speed read through) seem genuinely outraged/amused that Rooney could dare to not play because of a throat infection. You lot are wierdly conspiracy mad! Even with a conspiracy that has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on Liverpool FC.

So, Ji Sung Park at CM, this should be interesting!!!

Who knows how bad it is? Maybe he just feels a bit **** and needs a couple of days rest? Maybe he won't be fit for the weekend - SAF has only said we're going to try and get him back for Norwich. As Jonesy's example shows, it can be something that lingers on for a couple of weeks and weeks or it could turn out to be bacterial and he could be fine by tomorrow afternoon.

Not wanting to get too graphic, but often the only way you can tell if it's bacterial or viral is the presence of pus on the tonsils. No pus = no idea which one it is, so all you can do is give them antibiotics and hope...

    P.S. 1-0 :D

    P.P.S. 10 goals in 15 starts for Chicharito. What a **** second season he's having... <whistle>

I'd want to kill the 'cast' first though. Actually no, torture them first! I've only ever seen adverts for the programme but I have heard some the hilarious catch phrases.

There is one very, very good mate of mine who went through a spell of calling everything reem. And also, hilariously, on FB. I wanted to kill him but more than that I wanted to cry.
